Default Anyone in New Mexico?

Just got orders to Clovis. Please paint a picture of what I'm about to get myself into...

As you can tell I'm beyond thrilled.... (extreme sarcasm)

BFE but instead of the AK tundra it's NM desert. Really, no joke, Clovis is an hour away from Lubbock and two from Albuquerque.

Check out www.racingsouthwest.com and www.camtuning.com for local events and activities, hope to see you around the ABQ area sometime.

An hour from Lubbock? More like 1:30-1:45. If you've been to Ali Al Salem AB then Cannon is pretty close to that. Not as hot but it also smells worse here. We are in the middle of fly season as well
Local gas around here is 90 octane, one or two in town that offer 91 as well on the base. The housing here sucks if you are living in town. Rent is jacked up for being the middle of ****ville. The locals know what you make and what your housing allowance is and they charge accordingly (without taking utilities into account!). I'm renting a 3 bed/2 bath for 1200 a month.
Check out some Youtube videos if you want to really get depressed. For the number of cows around here, they don't have any good/great steak houses.
I personally enjoy driving to Lubbock with 6 gas cans just to get enough e85 to run around for two weeks
This place sucks, I think they bring airmen here just to motivate them to deploy!

No e85? And 90 octane? God dammit. Sounds like up here. FML.

I got the damn shaft it sounds like.

Any drag strips nearby? Or am I going to have to drive hours away to do that too?

I don't think you understand the concept here. This place sucks. The only thing to do that this town has is a shooting range, and even that is craptacular.

How's Amarillo and Lubbock for nightlife?

Many concerts come to either that aren't country?

No clue, not much for making the trek on the weekend just for fun. They are a sprawling metropolis compared to this town though so I'm sure you could find something to do in them.

OMGHi2U

Plenty of STI/WRX/EVO/92x's driving around town. Guess it's a popular choice for blowing a signing bonus
Even one or two SRT Neons farting around.
At least they have a Walmart and fast internet, so get your BF3 on

Fast Internet. Please tell me it's cheaper than $79.99 for 15megs.

Suddenlink and Plateau are two of the biggies. I have a 15Mbps plan for around 55$ plus tax.

Clovis.... bummer! Amarillo has the Big Texan... Lubbock has... I dunno - Texas Tech?

There's a drag strip in Albuquerque, as well as a track... (the latter being right down the street from the Metro detention center...)

Are they flying anything out of Cannon now? I remember they lost what was originally stationed there (just like Kirtland AFB) but recall something else went there, just can't remember what!

From what I have gathered its all spec ops 130's, Cv-22's and predators.

And I suppose I can become a Texas tech fan. I have to have something to do there.

I used to have a girlfriend that was going to school in Portales. It sucked so bad we would go up to Clovis for dinner/entertainment. I still have nightmares from those two craptastic towns!

Plus the lingering smell of manuer gets annoying but I'm sure you will get used to it in time.

You'll just have to head to ABQ every now and then. There aren't many people in NM, let alone people with cool cars. I just moved here from TX recently and all the subaru people around ABQ have been really cool. Not many meets, but there is a drag strip and a pretty cool road course so it has potential. I don't run E85 myself, but a few people around here do and they seem to have as much trouble as you do finding it. My favorite thing is all the random unpopulated roads that go along with the abysmal population. Someone above already mentioned racingsouthwest and camtuning. those are your best bet for any meets or anything.

let me know if you're ever coming to the ABQ area and we can cruise or try to get something together.

Thanks for the tips. I plan on traveling a lot when I get there. After being stuck in Alaska I'm looking forward to road trips.

Sucks there's not much of an option when it comes to forums in NM. I'm already on RacingSouthwest, so I'll keep my eyes out for everyone.
