Default Why do I have to keep reflashing stage 2 map out of no where?

Hey guys,

I have a 2011 STI stage 2. Currently just have invidia catted downpipe and access port. I am running stage 2 map 91 oct. For some odd reason (not first time) (second time), my car was just super randomly slow today. It felt like I was in intelligent mode when I was in sport sharp mode (s#). I did some pulls and car wasnt picking up... 3rd gear at 3k rpm pulling was also super slow. I turned off the car and turned it back on and nothing changed. So I decided to uninstall the stage 2 map off my car and reinstall it again using the accessport. This fixed the problem right away! I noticed a HUGE difference again when I was pulling. This is the second time I had to do this within the 1 year I had it. Am I doing something that is screwing up with the ecu? Why am I having this problem? Is this normal? Has anyone had similar problems? Please help and give me your input

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for reading!
When you reflash a map (which is also what happens when you install the AccessPORT), that reflash is permanent until you reflash again. You could remove the engine control unit (ECU) from the car, leave it sitting for years, and put it back in and the last reflashed tune would still be there.

What is not permanent is the real-time map. If you install a real-time map it overrides 10 keys table for boost/fuel/timing/rev limiter that are present in the reflashed map. But, the tune will become the reflashed map if you reflash a map, reset the ECU (via AccessPORT or software), or disconnect the car's battery. If you had something unusual flashed (like the fuel economy map as a reflash and your stage 2 map as real-time), then that could cause a problem if the real-time map was erased (due to one of the aforementioned procedures).

But, what may be more likely here is that one of the ECU's learned parameters is causing the perceived slow-down. The ECU might, for example, be seeing some excessive knock at times and it is dropping the dynamic advance multiplier (DAM) as a result. The resulting change in timing could be noticed as a loss of power. Or you may have an issue with fueling (due to an intake tract leak, for example), that is causing your long-term fuel trims to become erratic over time. Because one of these trims is also applied at high load (i.e. wide open throttle), then, if the fueling error doesn't exist there (or not to the same severity), that can cause issues. When you do any of the procedures I mentioned earlier for clearing the real-time map (including uninstalling the AccessPORT), it also resets these learned parameters.

Best thing to do would be to get a data log when you are feeling the slow-down (see link below). You can post the log up on google docs and link to it here (make sure to transfer it to google's native format and set permissions to public) or you can attach it in a post at the cobbforums (select "Go Advanced" and "Manage Attachments" when posting).

Confirm the map you are using via the AP. DO NOT REFLASH. If it is the correct map, do a data log.

Best thing to do is to describe exactly what issue you are experiencing, what you did before and after the issue started happening, a list of all your mods, the name of the exact map you are running, and a description of your car/year. If you have data logs, post those up on google docs (set permissions to public and convert to google docs format). If not, check out the data logging video below for details on how to get a log:
