Default 2.0 us swap to 2.0JDM

So I'm being told repeatedly that I can take a JDM EJ205 2.0 an swap in my us EJ205 2.0 and all I have to do is swap the crank pulley and intake manifold from my engine to the JDM and it'll work. Is there any truth behind this at all?? I'm waiting on pulling the trigger on buying a motor because I want to make sure this is correct information. Thanks

Why would you want to do this? Is your engine bad?

Also I'm not sure if it's that easy or not, my motor is bad so I'm currently looking at options for replacing it.

Yes my motor is bad. And no I'm talking about a complete swap. I've been told it'll work, I'll just have to swap my intake manifold and crank pulley to the JDM motor, then a tune. A certified Subaru 15 year mechanic told me this, with the full faith and support of 2 other Subaru mechanics. Just want to make sure before I buy a motor and then I've got a huge mess on my hands.

Dirtslayer- that's why I posted here, because I've found info both ways, saying that it's doable and easy, and also that I need the JDM ECM or a require.

Swap manifold, throttle body, tgvs, and cam sensor. Its really not much more involved than swapping it in and making sure the elecrical is going to work,.(ie sensors).

Your stock, so this is easy regardless.

If I blew my motor again, I wouldn't necessarily do a swap in.
I blew my 205 last summer. Rod knock.
So I bought a ej255 (2007 wrx) longblock, swapped mani, got cosworth cam bracket, removed air pumps and tuned. Many issues later, I've spent more than I would've spent for a built 2liter.

So either can be done on different budgets

Great info, I appreciate it. Just for the sake of getting my car in the road, I'll probably go through with it and see what happens. Thanks again for that info

Go with the ej207. if you buy the motor swap from a vendor on here it comes with EVERYTHING i got a quote of a v8 shipped intake mani, exhaust, turbo top mount for 3800. If you have a 02/03 then it is a straight swap motor for motor with the exception of 3 new wires for avcs and they make a kit at iaperformance. If you have an 04+ you have to disconnect something im not sure what since i have an 03. It is supposedly the easiest swap to do. Search ej207 owners, You just have to read a lot. Get a version 8. Can handle 350 whp from the factory no problem

Edit: and it revs to 8500 rpm. And so i dont sound like a dick.

Also i didnt swap intake manifold, or crank, i just swapped engine harness. And it pulls and drives Good, just has a basic tune to get to tuner, not driving it but it drives.

One I bought was a JDM ej205. Been told there's no harness swapping, just plug and play. Guess in misinformed?

Its plug and play nothing needs to be swapped. I got ao 02 wrx with a jdm 2.0 wrx engine.

Everything is plug n play. But only thing different is the jdm 2.0 has avsc so You would need the jdm ecu and a avcs wiring kit from ia performace n a tne

Just found out i may have a issue with my motor and may be replacing or fixing not sure yet but i would like to know if the jdm motor is smog legal? or do i need to go to the process of getting it bared from a smog ref? Debating on what to do at the moment as my motor feels strong but my log says otherwise.
