Default Anybody rebuild an R180??

Has anybody rebuilt a a R180 rear differential on a STi? Or know of a good shop that can do it?

Mine is howlng like a dog and would rather see if i can go the rebuild route before i shell out the cash to buy a whole new assembly.

Thank you

Honestly, you'll probably pay a shop $250++ to rebuild it with new bearings, shims and all. It's not a quick or easy thing. And with used ones costing $300 or so, used might be a better route.

Install a LSD if you do it. There was a used Carbonetic unit in the F.S. section here. Those were hard to get for a while and the cost went from $950 to $1800 last time I looked them up.

But if you need to get the rear diff rebuilt. It makes a huge difference.

Also how is it howling? Have you owned the car since new? Does it have any aftermarket bushings? Going to upgraded mounts can add more noise. Is it leaking or low on oil? smell funny?
