Check out Oakleyvault.com they tend to have great deals on Oakley snow gear from time to time. I got my Oakley airbrake's off there for only 140.00

first day out with this:

holy sex muffins. it's so ballistic, feel is so damn good and it really has tons of qualities i didn't even know a board could have.

i've never had anything other than a beginner board and all my boards were well used. the nicest thing i'd ever ridden before a week ago was a salomon driver, and a week ago i rode a horrorscope. both of those boards were thrashed and just... dead. they were great in terms of dead boards, and i'm sure they're great new but... well this new board totally shredded any time i loosened up and grew the balls to push it. so much pop, so controllable, so fast and no matter where i went with it, it just ripped.

i mean, i'm definitely towards the beginner end of 'intermediate' but i'm not a beginner, so for my first non-beginner board i totally feel like this thing is worth every penny, and since i got it on clearance with an extra sale, it'll pay for itself this season if i'm lucky.

the snow quality was a little lacking today but i had so much fun with my new gear and pumping tunes(something i hardly ever do) that i couldn't care less. pushed myself from 9 to 4, hardly even took a lunch.

Oh yeah.
It's bombproof, I guess I can use my kids gear for reviews too.
My son has been rocking an Oakley jacket for a few seasons, light insulation, works well with little signs of wear. They also have some stuff by Ride, Stoic, and Soltice. The Soltice coat that my other kid has has a zip in fleece, 25K rating all around, water proof zippers, critically taped seams, etc.. I don't recall how much I paid, but I know I wouldn't spend more than $100. I always get old season colors and stuff. His coat is pretty dope, wish I had one like it.

Also, I have a Rome Watts shell that's soak proof, breathes well, and is indestructible. It came with a zip-in liner that would have worked well, but was waaaay to small. Payed about $60ish for it (I think) on whiskey a few years back.

Oakley, burton, 686 and four square are my favorites. Dakine and North Face make awesome gloves. I notice that companies that make boards, bindings and boots tend to make not as great outerwear. Stick with the people who focus on outerwear gear and accessories. (burton doesn't count, nobody buys button anymore and don't forget you want fully taped seams on your jacket and pants. And youre gonna need about 10k waterproof on your pants and 12k/15k on your jacket if you don't want to get wet

I was thinking about looking into some 686 gear. I had a pant from them a few years ago that I liked. but it only lasted me 1 season before the seams let out. This might've been 8 years ago though.

I think the first thing I need to do is get over to Evo or SnoCon in seattle and start looking at what I like and figure out how much I want to spend. Anyone know when the sales are supposed to start? I feel like its getting close to that time. I'm also going to be in Portland this weekend, is US Outdoor still a good spot to find some deals?

Evo's new brick and motor store has a way better collection so I would definitely check em out. 686 has definitely made drastic improvements in quality over the past years. I've got a jacket from then that withstands the daily abuse I put it through very well. The sales sorta start end of February but really kick up in March

This is why I buy ALL my gear needed at the SnoCon sample sale every year. Got my brand new 2012 Ride 'zip tech' pant/jacket combo for 75% off.

I've ridden Burton stuff previously but I've grown accustomed to riding nothing but ziptech. I like being able to tumble in pow and know I'm not getting snow down my back/pants

NICE @NwRider! I work at SnoCon so I'm biased.

I like Zip Tech too. It's unfortunate that Volcom and those who choose to pay them can only use it - that's business I guess.

It's actually really cheap to buy a zipper from a fabric store and have them sew it in. Airblaster used to include a zipper with some jackets for doing this.

When is that sample sale usually? I always seem to hear about it after the fact. I really like it when Burton does their sample sale. Somehow I heard about that a couple years ago. Lots of good deals were had.

Evo had the Burton cargos 25% off with free 2 day shipping so i picked up a pair. I almost bought a jacket, but I know its gonna really go on sale soon. I just didn't want to miss out on sizes. I'm probably not going to ride for awhile so maybe I'll come across some other gear.

Had 3 fun days at Bachelor Weds - Fri with some friends in town from the bay area. No freshies but it has been bluebird with conditions bordering spring-like. Kind of fun to go up on days that I normally wouldn't. Been practicing some board control and riding switch. Even changed my stance around to make it more conducive to that. Being able to comfortably ride switch, land and take off switch will be a dream come true. I've made quite a bit of progress in the last few days.

Pray for snow!

Burton controls pricing on all their gear and they just gave all shops the OK to lower prices 25% if the choose so.

It's looking good for Saturday! I'll be up at Stevens bright and early.

Got some good turns in at Stevens on Sunday. 7" over the previous 24 hours. Not bad considering the past 6 weeks. Terrible sun crust underneath though.

Bachelor was awesome today, if you're in to hard core storm riding. It was snowing & blowing super hard. 60 MPH gusts on chairs. Plenty cold. The snow was super dry and creamy and was coming down in buckets when I left.

I'm heading up, but sans Subaru....no driving until ball joint gets fixed. Should be a good day!
