Is there an option to just pay a fine? In the end, it is all about money.

Just look around for a mechanic that will sign it off for you. Expect to pay around 100-150.

I think thats an option, either way you have to pay the fine. Screw going to the ref.

The ref will make sure your car is 100% compliant, stock everything, or you fail.

Sorry to hear. They are really cracking modified cars in Irvine. If you take to a CA ref, you have everything to stock. They are educated there.

Well im a smog technician. What he (and I would look for) is make sure all your vacuum lines are hooked up correctly. So having your PCV hooked up stock would help. Next, check and see if you have a completely stock exhaust system from the header to axle. Even though the only ones that really matter are the headers, uppipe and downpipe (and maybe the midpipe if it is suppose to have a cat there too). Also make sure if you have aftermarket intake that it has the C.A.R.B. (or E.O.) number visible. Injectors wont really matter to him but if its putting too much fuel and not enough air it can and more than likely effect your emission part of the test. And as far as the turbo goes, visually it won't affect it but may affect the emissions.

If it looks/sounds modified enough hell ref you anyway.

Sometimes if you pop your hood they dont notice the mods and send you on your way, better to be polite and hope for the best lol

Legally in CA you cant sell the car unless it passes smog...

Fine shouldnt be more than a red light ticket, 500 maybe.

I much rather be a jerk to the cop and deny him access to my car. At least then you might have a chance of not getting searched. Don't make the cops job easy on them by giving them permission, specially since its your right.

Jut put the car back to stock and get it singed off by the ref. You could probably get away with the catless uppipe. Worst case you have to come back again if they notice. When I BAR'd my swap I told them all three cats ware there and the REF looked at me and said the book says there are only two. He almost didn't pass me because I had an "extra cat"

For the extra cat...? Yeah I believe he could of done that but the way he saw it (maybe) this guy is trying to save the earth but throwing another cat on there haha! But yeah the book they give us isn't always accurate just like everything else there will always be one f*** up.

If you are going to keep the catless uppipe I would try to at least throw the heatshield over it... if you can that it.

Actually it's worked out for me a lot. My buddy in the other hand decided to let a cop look under his hood once and the cop gave him a ref ticket because his radiator hose was orange. Some cops are dumb like that.

See 2804 V.C. and 2806 V.C. in the California Vehicle code. The cops can force you to pop your hood.

In my experience CVC pretty much gives cops license to do whatever they want. How did people vote for this crap? Representative democracy in the computer age is BS, etc. Hahaha
