Default Low idle

I have a 2004 impreza rs with no check engine lights and it runs strong. The only weird thin is that it idles just a hair under 500 Roma. Is that too low and what could be causing it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I just want to make sure you're reading the tachometer properly.

Since the car should never be under 500 RPMs, the tach has a dead zone from 0 to 500 RPMs. This is represented through the hash at zero and the hash immediately next to it, which represent 0 and 500 RPMs respectively.

Now, if your tach is reading approximately halfway between 1000 RPMs and 0 RPMs, that would put your idle at around 650 RPMs, which is what the service manual calls normal idle--plus or minus 100 RPM, I believe.

NOTE: Also, if your engine is idling under 500 RPMs, you would definitely be able to feel that; it would be a pretty rough idle.
