Default '04 TS Wagon IAC problem?

A good friend has a 2004 Impreza TS stick wagon. He is having a couple issues with it. He has been experiencing a cruise throttle bucking as well as some popping between shifts. Also, when coming to a stop with clutch in, car sometimes stalls. He finally got a check engine light. Came back IAC. He took it to a place and they seem to think that there is something else going on as well. An IAC is almost $400.00 Therefore, before biting that off, I was just trying to get some other feedback. The local dealer doesn't stock it because they never go bad typically they said. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Jamie

swap with a used, but known to be good IAC. IAC and a dying front 02 sensor are the usual culprits. Be sure to check the obvious things such as throttle cable and throttle stop. 04 is unique with the plastic intake and temp sensor in the air box but most everything else interchanges.

What's the mileage? Basic maintencance *could* help, for instance cleaning the heck of every MAP, MAF, and throttle body that can be found, using a spray can of TB/electric contact cleaner.

Does '04 have a MAP or MAF sensor? Where is it? Throttle body and IAC were cleaned at garage where the car was taken. Didn't seem to do anything.

It is MAP. Here's a picture of my car with the MAP sensor circled.
