fastest is in the 10s. dont expect to even get close to that with a simple staged setup. with their stage4 with an ECU id say you could hit low 13s and maybe high 12s. but that will be pushing your internals and the rings will blow eventually. and when you are talking 12s with a 2.5 you are talking new gears since the 2.5 puts out way too much torque for the crappy manual tranny.

check out this thread and read all the links. its a very good read, newbie or not. youll see all the issues that can come up when trying to push the 2.5.

Andrew - He said 2.5RS, not GC/GM body car.

The fastest 2.5RS I know of was Adam Bloom's car that ran a 12.68 in the 1/4, IIRC. I believe Adam is/ is working at Z1 Performance now.

nick, i believe rigoli has a 2.5 in 10s, and wasnt Adams car a GC but with an STi V4 engine? then its a 2.0.

i couldnt find it on their site, i swear rigoli had a 2.5 in 10s. anyways while doing the search i found drag results listing various engines/cars/etc and it said EJ25 TT 10.77. http://www.fullboost.com.au/racing/records/records.html

Adam originally had a Minnam Stage II with gobs of piggyback electronics. He ran mid 12's. Later he put in a fully refreshed STi and dumped some sick 11 sec run I think. Shane has a '98 that also ran/runs 12's. There are a couple monster Minnam/Tec-II RS's out there that have never hit the track, but put out some sick numbers.

Yea unfortuantaly not a lot of Turbo RS's seem to hit the tracks. Right now I'm somewhere in the mid 13's (I hope, last time I ran was 14.2, since then I've got some major tunning on it), I know that thats not that fast but I like it After I get some runs next season then I'll see if I want to go for the 12's

so u think i can safely get to mid 12's wit the stage IV from forced air tech with stock pistons? and maybe a couple more mods?.....all i want is a 12 sec car and that should be satisfying... until the day i out grow the speed and wanna go faster

AFAIK, Shane ran a 12.89... I know that cause a friend up in WI (ralyrcr) ran at the same time and hit a 12.98 and always was talking about the incredible runs, lol.

it might be cheaper/safer to push a 2.0 to 12s than to push an EJ25 to 12s. at those levels youre just asking for a rod, gear, rings to bend/break/blow

Default So why does the EJ25...

Motor for motor... So why does the EJ25 have so much tuning problems compared to tuning up the EJ20? Simply because of the more 'torque factor' on the EJ25 or what?

A believe tuning a EJ20 to run 12 seconds requires new strokes and tranny as well right? So the bad part about tuning the EJ25 is the low stock durability of all non-motor parts then?

The simple answer? 10:1 compression ratio vs 8:1. Lots more room for error on the EJ20.

This will both clarify and add to the confusion

Post '97 EJ20's were mostly 8:1 CR's, but pre-97 EJ20's are 8.5 to 1. And many UK Impreza Turbos are 9 to 1

My old car was a GC with first a Turbo'd 2.5 (.63 trim T3/T4, Spearco top mount) from Andrew at Minnam. Rest of the mods were an ACT clutch (which ultimately was swapped for an Sti V3 tranny, STi flywheel, STi clutch), Denso 255 lph fuel pump, 2:1 Magetti Marelli adjustable fuel pressure regulator, Apex'i ITC and SAFC. I played around with various setups and found this one to work best. the boost bug got the best of me, and I started testing the limits of the stock motor. After 14k miles or so at 18 psi daily, 21 psi on race gas (track only), I pretzled the #3 rod. When all was disassembled, no detonation evidence was found on pistons...the rod just twisted and snapped (to be expected I think, as I got much more out of it than every anticipated).

I then had an STi V4 motor done with some mild cams, 550cc injectors and a VF22 and a LINK..car ran a best of 11.88@118 on pump gas, and remains a daily driver with the new owner.

Car ran a best of 12.68@108.

Shane's car was pretty close (12.89), and the only time we raced was down here on the street......I edged him out by a tad.
