Default Need help, crankshaft sensor problem

I have a 05 STI and my car will run and drive fine then all the sudden it will start to skip and sputter and my tack will start to jump around it will back fire real bad and then cut off. Once it cuts off it will not crank up again. It will throw a code for crankshaft position sensor. I've changed the sensor and it would crank right up and drive fine again for a little then do it all over again. I put the original sensor back in and it would crank right back up. This morning I got in and it wouldn't crank so I just unplugged the sensor then back in and no problems, for now anyway. I need help I'm lost. The plug is fine also. Thanks

Sounds like wiring, not the sensor, did the wire ever get pulled?

Well Topspeed just put a new motor in my car, when I talked to them they said it was the sensor but they did say they unclipped the prongs from the clip but I looked at it and it looks fine and there not loose

It would help us to know what the code was you saw. There may be a engine grounding problem causing the trouble possibly.

The code was for crankshaft position sensor. There was a loose ground wire and that got fixed but it still did it. Today I've been driving it and it's not doing it now, I had that one problem this morning but nothing since then. It's really weird. I can just feel like I'm gonna be driving down the street and it breaks down on me again.

i had the same issue on my car a while ago. to this day i dont know what exactly fixed it i gave up took it to the dealer. They couldnt find the source pulled half the car apart put it back together and then said it was the chip in my key. Replaced the key and havent had that issue since. If you ever find the cause let me know just for some piece of mind.
