Thanks for looking out and it seems we are both in the same boat about wishing we would sleeved it when we had the chance lol

Things are coming together!

Came home tonight to see my new Kelford 220-D camshafts from Josh @ Import Image Racing waiting for me! :-)

This was the last piece to the puzzle that I needed to have the engine put back together and will be dropping off for Nate tomorrow so we can get this car back together!

Things that are left to do: strip the car for optimal weight loss, install the fuel system, install the engine, tune @ high boost and corner balance!

Thank you for reminding me

I sent out my Perrin manifold, AMS up-pipe and Precision turbine housing to Justin's Powder Coating in St. Marys, Pa to be ceramic coated instead of only using the DEI titanium wrap which will be a nice simple upgrade to help lower under-hood temps and help keep exhaust heat within the piping and turbine housing :-)

Also, I talked to Nate today about some upgrades to the car to get it ready for import vs domestic @ MIR in November...

The car will be getting a 3" straight pipe exhaust instead of using the Invidia Q300 quad-tip exhaust, we are going to begin stripping down the interior, using dry-ice to remove all sound-deadening material, remove air bags, installing the new fuel system, remove rear wing and if possible, sell my stock seats/steering wheel to replace with lightweight seats and wheel

As far as engine rebuild updates, the camshafts have been dropped off at the machine shop to check clearances for the cam lobes, need to purchase new buckets as well as well as a new passenger side intake cam gear...

Are you going to get some runs in a PRP before heading to import vs domestic?

Also, any chance you'd be selling the Q300? A friend of mine needs an exhaust.

Can't wait to get this thing back to the track!

As Dave said, we will be prepping the car for the Import vs. Domestic race at MIR and hopefully click off a few mid-low 10sec passes before the end of the year.

We should have the heads back from the machine shop this week and hopefully firing this bad boy up next week sometime!

Thanks, negative Nancy. Not all of us are that dumb and can wait and save so we don't financially kill ourselves.

If you are gonna post this comment on my thread, you might as well put it on every other build thread...

You have no idea how much I pay for my parts, what my current living arrangements are, if i even would like a house right now instead of the apartment where i live, etc, so why are you wasting your time commenting? lol

The comment wasn't meant to be negative. I was commenting based on experience. Ive spent tons of money on cars in the past and later down the road I wished I would have spent the money on a house. I guess the :/ face did not translate the tone of my comment was not taking a jab at the OP. Don't get your panties in a bind.

No panties in a bind over here bcz i prefer free-balling but still confused why you even commented?

I understand this is a huge, costly project but i knew what i was getting into before i even started so dont worry

Dont worry buddy, you aint missing nothing not owning a home. Houses are money pits same as cars. Lots of people spent hundreds of thousands of dollars thinking their home was an investment only to loose their precieved worth.

Although i believe a person should be responsible with money, disposable income is what it is. Dont go into debt for weddings, hobbies etc.

Back on topic, i was at Moores shop and saw that bucket your cam ate and i was like wtf.

I have the same cams and im hoping that wont happen to me. Also are you concerned with the 704 casting failures that have been happening?

Haha yea, if i wanted to own a house... i would buy a house but i dont want one so i enjoy modifying my car at this point in my life

Yea that bucket was a mess unfortunately but after talking with a few people including sean @ vigilant motorsports, we believe we have a pretty good idea what happen but not 100% positive so i will not start pointing fingers and just get back to making power

Well thankfully I do not have a 704 casing so im pretty confident I will not experience the problems people have been recently reporting! After the head failure, it gave us a chance to se how the shortblock has been holding up after about 6k miles with mostly running between 25-28psi and everything looked terrific

Well... good news as well as bad news

I guess I will start with the bad...
The machine shop has told us that when they disassembled the block for cleaning, they noticed some problems that will need to be addressed accordingly. We will talk to Sean @ Vigilant tomorrow to see if he would like us to mail the block to him to inspect and see what the next move is...
I feel like I am eating my words somewhat from the previous post but this is something that was not able to be seen when we pulled the engine
It sucks to hear this but we take care of the issue and move forward as planned!

On to the good news...
Justin's Powdercoating messaged me today with some preview pictures of the ceramic coating that was performed on my Perrin exhaust manifold, AMS up-pipe and Precision turbine housing which makes the day somewhat brighter

On the topic of sleeves, you should be fine. It's all about time from what I understand. Outside of a roadcourse there isn't a single place you can keep boost so high long enough to warrant sleeves. I went the sleeve route cause the car will see 4-5 20-30 min sessions of constant high boost, literally 80-150x more time in boost for a whole day at a roadcourse vs a 6 run drag day and that's constant without any breaks between every 10 seconds.

Nice build btw, looks very clean and well done. Curious if you can show pics of where/how you mounted the surge tank.

Head, cam, bucket issues took the motor into retirement. It's being rebuild now a little beefier than before I believe. Boost will now be much higher with fuel system able to keep up.

Stock sleeves are better than aftermarket sleeves in every aspect other than strength.

They cool better, seal better, and in general cause less issues.

The tune is what makes them live or not its really that simple.

Cylinder pressure is not directly related to boost. Det and preignition and to much heat most likely kill liners the majority of the time and there's obviously probably a few times where it's just a bad block but I bet that's not as often as we think.

Oh as far as I know the block was ok. I think he might have had a 704 casting and that brought on the discussion.

I could be wrong though haven't been following lately. More or less in to see what she makes and what boost it takes and that sorta stuff myself.
