Default GF Brighton Wagon

I finally bought an Impreza after wanting one for 3 years after I saw my cousin's 2001. It took about 6 months of him owning it to get me hooked on Subaru's.

After putting up with driving a 2001 protege that could barely make it up a hill with out down shifting from 5th to 3rd and having 4 cool cars that are projects I finally gave in and bought my cousin's EJ22 powered Impreza with 250xxx Km for the awesome price of $2020

I bought it about 3 weeks ago and this is how it sits now.

That's my cousin's project FC

The bad things in the car are that there is minor rust in the 1/4 panels and a small hole in the floor I need to patch, it needs a new paint job and a couple touch ups on the interior.

A cracked windshield, a hole in the exhaust and it will probably need a clutch by the end of the summer. As of yesterday new plugs are added to this list.

On the upside I recently discovered both head gaskets were changed before he bought the car so that saved me a ton of money and the car was taken care of by the previous owners before my cousin.

Last year before parking it before the winter my cousin had the engine, transmission, rear end and transfer case oil changed, and a new air filter. Brand new all season tires with 90% tread left (my cousin paid $500 for the tires). It also has a new driver side front strut.

My plans for the car are to get it running A1 after I start working and tick off this to do list by next summer
-Replace valve cover and spark plug gaskets
-replace cabin air filter
-Rear disc break conversion
-Weapon R air intake
-Upgraded front and rear sway bars
-Get a new carpet
-Upgrade to 2.5 heads
-Rear window upper and lower spoiler
-Put in 2002 gauges
-Custom 3 gauge dash pod
-Install my 6.5 Kenwoods in the front and new rear speakers with 2 shallow 10" subs
- New Plugs and Wires
-Up grade the power, ground and alternator wires
-New rims
-Lower 2 inch
-Repaint Sadona Sunset with possible metallic flakes or Candy Apple
-Paint front and rear calipers, piping, engine bay candy apple red
-Install carbon fiber hood/paint candy apple read

one of my main questions is about Plasti Dip, I know some hate it and other love it but I'm debating on looking into possibly plasti dipping the car for the winter as a form of protection from the salt they use on our roads. This will of course be used in combination of undercoating the car too. Then in the spring rip it off and give the car a new paint job.

If you guys have any feed back or suggestions on plasti dip, engine upgrade or suspension up grades I'd be happy to hear from you guys. Also Rim and tire suggestions are welcome. I do not plan to stance this car out though.

Wish you best of luck and lots of fun with your project fellow wagoner!

And BTW: "GC8" is the model code for turbocharged sedans or coupes. Wagons go by "GF" (w/ turbo = GF8).

I dropped the girl I'm seeing off at work and on my way home I saw an 02 bug eye wagon drive into a local store and thought it was the same one I was going to buy that had the sub frame rusted out. I ended up talking to the owner and turns out she has owned it for 12 years and it only has 119xxxkm on it. I couldn't resist taking a few photos, sadly she did't seem to keep the exterior of her car too clean.

My gf's neighbor's car. This is pretty my much what every kid between the age of 16 -19 drives where I'm from. I gladly have never and will never own a civic.

I've also gotten a couple interior shots and took the time to photograph the rust spots so I can have them documented and used for a reference when I go to fix them.

While at a buddy's house I decided to change my spark plugs and found some bad news. I have oil on the spark plug books and with a little research I found out it is cause by spark plug gaskets. I called and they're included in Valve cover gaskets so I'm going to order those for about 65 with tax included.

I found out it's a common problem with the boxers from 1.8's to 2.5's.
Here is the write up I found in another thread and figured it may help any one with the same problem. I hope to fix this issue this weekend

A little story for you guys. So this Friday was my College graduation from the Precision Machinist course at Holland College in PE Canada. I decided to put in the new valve cover and spark plugs gaskets (I was tight for time and couldn't take photos) I had to be at the campus at 6 (two hours away from where I was) and I decided to do the gasket swap at 2 after my motor cooled off.

Around 3:50 I was finished and got every thing put back together and was ready to leave so I turned on the car to see how it was running. I found the job easy and fun to do (I hope to not have to do it again for a while) and when I turned on the car my grandfather said there was coolant on the motor. At that I point I feared head gasket issues. I quickly remembered there are new head gaskets in the block so that can't be it. I looked at the motor and found out the smaller diamerterm metal hose that branches off of this one below was leaking

My question is what the hell do I call this hose. I've tried to tell Napa and my other local parts store that it's a coolant hose and they keep trying to sell me rubber ones. I told them it's a metal hose that rusted out and they said it's a dealer ship item. The last time I tried to deal with my local stealer ship they tried to tell me the price for my valve cover gaskets was going to be 75 for drivers side and 65 for passenger side. I got BOTH for 65 from a local parts store. I'm asking if any of you can give me a parts number for this hose or suggest where I can get aftermarket stainless steel hoses for it.
