Well you eventually found this thread didn't you? I'm not planning on ordering my car for another month or two, but I've been on here since August doing my research and keeping track of all the issues. If something is that important to you then you keep digging until you find some good answers. If you take the dealer's word for it on anything then that is on you. Would you go in to buy a car without getting some idea of what people are actually paying for it? It's the same thing. The dealer could say "We mark these up 5 grand because people pay it". Just because your dealer says it's true doesn't mean it is.

Did you also only go to one dealer? I contacted about 8 dealers in California, and am choosing my dealer based on everything I've learned here. It's not just about price, but it's about allocation and also experience doing factory orders. I had one guy (who graciously let me test drive a brand new black STI 5 door) finally offer me invoice but he originally looked at me like I was crazy when I talked about doing a factory order and said they get maybe 2 or 3 STI's a year. As much as I wanted to thank him by ordering through his dealership there's no way I'm going with someone who doesn't understand the process and has no allocation.

If there was nothing about wait times, then why weren't you upset when they told you about the 6-8 weeks you would have to wait?

Again, why can't you wait 4 months for a new car?

Pretty much what I did. I was obsessing from August till late October about dealer haggling and what to expect. Eventually went to the local dealership and asked for Invoice, got it without haggling and walked out with an order due in February within an hour. Makes me wish I had asked for under invoice .

Why are you trying to blame the customer for being annoyed? The dealership is his only real method of communication for the status of his car. When 6-8 turns into 16, that's a big difference, and one that causes a lot of stress to him and those of us waiting. Arguing that he shouldn't be annoyed is fruitless. You aren't him, if it doesn't bother you, more power to yah. If you find it so ridiculous that someone be annoyed that the lead time on the car is so long, maybe you should hang out in a thread full of people bitching about the lead times on their cars.

Well it is a bit of a shock to find out that you might have to wait 3-4 months for your car. However if you think about it the car you're getting isn't a regular car (ex: corolla, civic, etc...). It's a low production car with high demand. For many people WRX/STI are their realistic dream car.

it's still a subaru. Even ferrari orders get filled faster than a 4 month wait.

The ship that is supposedly carrying my car is in Baltimore now and due in RI on the 16th. We will see. Maybe I'll see it next week. 8 weeks Friday.

It's not the same. At all. Everyone knows to look up pricing. But our whole lives we order things through the mail and expect them on time when we have a shipping time. 4-6 weeks has to be the most ingrained time frame in most people's minds so when the dealer says it, you believe it. Also, I stumbled upon this thread looking for other info on the car like mods and things.

4 months isn't bad if you expect it. It's just that the only place to find out that its going to be that long is on a forum with a bunch of dudes you don't know with wonky screen names.

This thread has been lacking words from "Evanston Subaru" as of late haha. I hope he brings some good news soon like for example my wishful thinking "Subaru has caught up to production has everyone should be receiving cars 10-12 weeks at most" hahah.

I was told 4-6 weeks. During the 90s every commercial I ever saw selling something said 4-6 weeks delivery. It's just a natural sounding time and sounded reasonable to me. Plus I needed a couple weeks to get things together anyways. I didn't realize how much time I'd have.

ANYWAYS. I just got a call from SOA. They confirmed that the dealer actually has more info than them. They said end of December/January for me (still no real ETA). Got my VIN 11/12.
That's ok, that's just slightly longer than what I thought. If it ends up being two additional months i won't like that to much. Either way I'm just waiting on it.

When did you order it again? If you already have your VIN then I think you're just over reacting. Having a VIN = your vehicle has been built just waiting to be transport to you. I order exactly a month ago and my order status is "HOLD" since. I was also tol 6-8 weeks possibly 10-12 weeks at the most but at the current status of my order I doubt I will have anything til at least end of January or Febuary.

Actually I'm not really even reacting at all. We were just talking about how some people are upset about the long wait times. I for one think its justified. Then again I think it just makes getting the car that much sweeter after the wait. It almost feels like you're working harder for it.

Just got a note from my dealer confirming 4 month wait. Looks like I'll pull the trigger in the next couple of weeks then.

The 4 months wait period has been offically announced by Subaru last month. The lower the production on these cars the more happy I am because that means my car will be rare and it will retain value better.

The irony is that there are MANY STIs and WRXs sitting a dealers everywhere. Maybe a 5dr or 4dr, not the right color, no nav, etc.

I am in the same camp and there is even a car sitting about 100 miles away (my exact car), but I ordered mine already.

So it does NOT seem that rare or low production. I live across the street from a dealer and there is a WRX and STI on the lot right now. He always seems to have at least one or another. The dealer about 30 miles away has 4 WRXs.

The problem is that dealers will not trade, you want it you drive to it.
They also don't want to seem to budge on MSRP.

I hope mine comes soon - no word yet, just a VON, not even a VIN. On week 4 right now.

^you are lucky, there ~4 wrx/sti in my state right now.

SOA e-mailed me telling me my car was delivered today. Dealership is worthless. Hopefully get it this weekend.

Ordered: 9/1
VON: 9/4
SOA says delivered: 11/13 (~10 weeks)

WRX Limited DGM, no nav

You can cancel your order at any time and get your deposit back. Might be worthwhile if you don't mind paying a little more to get your car now .

Subaru is concentrating on the Crosstrek and BRZ's...which they too can't make fast enough. I can tell you with the growth of the Subaru brand the last couple years we have trouble keeping ANY of the models in stock (I'm a Subie Business Manager). It gets frustrating when half our sales are 'locates' or orders since they sell so fast. I only got my WRX from pulling a favor at a dealer we trade with. Matter of fact, Imprezas are usually gone before they get here. If we have any sitting on the lot they're gone within a week, WRX's last less than 48 hours usually.

all of that is glaring evidence of a repeated business faux pas - Subaru needs to refocus quite a bit. invest in production infrastructure, allotments need to be healthier across the board, etc. maybe start to promote/attach more Subaru franchises to GM dealers. there is a delicate balance between supply and demand - if you flood the market the product experiences a default devaluation, the opposite if you hold back...but there is a tipping point where demand is so high in a country with SO many options, that people simply move on and get something else. those are called lost sales and there have to be TONS of them. the current wait is obscene. i waited 8 weeks for mine when i got it in 2012 which isn't as bad as some of you but i know plenty of people who had nav cars and waited almost twice as long. either way, it's silly. the cars have limited factory options and share so much. i can get a custom built BMW from Germany or South Africa in the time it took me to get my Subaru. that is to my spec, not the cookie cutter combos in which Subaru is making their cars.

i mentioned a few posts back that i'm in the market again and i can honestly say that waiting again is enough of a reason to not get another STI because simply put there are other options that will make me just as happy and i won't have to play any weird games re: possibly waiting 4+ months for a limited option 35k car.

my post isn't bitching because i'm not even waiting for a car, it's an observation from someone who has endured what you all are going through and elected to NOT do it again for the very reason so many of you are getting a bit aggravated.

good luck to everyone.

I talked to the dealership today and my status is now shipped rail. Mine ETA has also changed from 11/29 to 11/26. Any chance I get it before then? How long does it usually take once its on the rail?

What has everyone ordered? Is there any difference between wrx and sti wait times? I ordered an aspen white 4dr sti limited with nav. I ordered the first week of October and have only recieved the Von.

You mean satin white pearl?

And the STi waits are a tad longer than the wrx's. Also both take longer with Nav. But Subaru announced in October that it would be a 4 month wait for STi's.
