I went to Sommer's a few months ago and they treated me very poorly when I showed interested in a used '09 they had; needless to say I didn't return there.

What about you?

Same here. Here's to hoping but I think it may be a lack of experience in special orders for some dealers.

I had a similar experience at BMW of Nashville with a friend a few years ago. He was ready to pay cash for a 2008 328i using savings + nearly $20k insurance payout from his last car being totaled. They wouldn't let us test drive the car, so he bought an Audi A4 instead. We were both 22 at the time, so I can understand that we probably looked like a couple of punks who weren't going to buy anything, but it irked me enough to never want to go back to that dealership under any circumstances. My friend was furious.

It totally varies from dealer to dealer. I've test driven cars where they didn't even look at my driver's license before we took off.

When I was 17 my mom bought me a car (very generous I know). She wanted me to do the leg work at the dealers to figure out what exactly I wanted so I didn't waste her time (she had to approve it though). Went to a local VW dealer, got treated so poorly because of my age.

Went back with my new car the next day, had a few words with the sales manager and the sales individual I spoke with previously. Let's just say they felt a little stupid.

I get that there are people who just try to joy ride cars, etc. but you can't profile someone because they're young; just a bad business model.

The Subaru dealer offered to let me driev a WRX but never a STI even though that's the one I was considering. Now the Car Max out here don't mind let you do test drives. I test drove a 2011 Challenger R/T 6-speed and a 2011 Challenger SRT8 6-speed.

Sommer's. I had a very good experience with them. I'm pretty sure that its hit or miss depending on which which salesman you get and I liked mine.

What do you mean by "shipping"?

Heuberger is in Colorado. So I would have to have the car freight shipped to MKE. That added ~600 onto the price of the vehicle.

I really like the parts department at Sommer's. The guys there have always been great to work with, and their prices are the best. Check out :http://www.subarupartshouse.com/ if you ever need OEM parts.

It depends on which guy you get at the parts counter. The one guy is pretty good and the other one I had was terrible. I had exact part numbers in the second case and he was still having trouble.

As far as dealers not wanting to let people test drive a Sti, I get that. Working at BMW, there is no way we would let someone test drive a M car. And the reason behind that is, the people that buy those cars already know what the are getting, and dealerships know they will be sold. Also those same people that buy those kind of cars, do not want to buy them with test drive miles on them. A lot of us motor enthusiast prefer to get our cars with as low miles as possible so that we know the break in is done by us. I know I wouldn't want to buy a car like a Sti that had 100+ miles on it driven by joe blow. Heck even the lowly Wrx i have ordered, I want the break in miles driven by me.

My 2011 BMW 135i had 172 miles on it. Between test drives and the fact it was a dealer trade car that the dealer I bought it from had a hard time selling supposedly since it was a 6-speed manual and not a DCT with no options except for the M-Sport Package and Cold Weather package. My 2004 SRT4 had 102-105 miles on it when I purchased it new in 2005. The STI will be the first new car I've ever ordered let only the lowest mileage new car.

Hello everyone

long time reader 1st time poster...

been browsing this forum since 2006 but finally decided to purchase one.

just wanted to get your opinion.

2013 WRX limited w/ navi + popluar package #1

PP#1 = floor mats, homelink, wheel locks, short shifter, etc etc.

i got quoted 31990 OTD.

at first i thought this was a good price but a lot of dealers say they cannot go any lower than that. the 2nd lowest i was quoted was 32500 OTD.

should i ask the dealer to shave off $40? or make it an even 31500?

what do you think? any strategies you guys wanna fill me in on?

i can go either way, finance or pay in full.

i am from california

If you want an apples to apples price comparison, you're going to need to state your price before tax. Taxes vary from location to location.

Just my opinion but in-dash nav systems are typically an awful deal. You are paying $1k for something that a $100 Garmin can do better, and you will never recoup that money if you plan to sell the car.

Just got an email response from my dealer. Still eta is June, but on the plus side I had requested it wasn't dealer badged or washed and waxed. And if possible to just leave the plastic film on so I can take it off when I get home. She told me that they already don't badge the car at all, they also don't drill front license plate holes unless the customer states they want them, and lastly if they do not remove the plastic they cannot inspect the car for any imperfections that may occur during transportation thus leaving me liable for any I find, and will not be covered under warranty. So I told her to go ahead and remove and inspect, just don't wash it.

Thing is, on these cars, nav isn't the only thing you get, and you have to take that option if you want the others.

I sold my other car and I'm starting to order parts for the new one. First up was a SMY dual gauge pod w/ prosport boost and oil pressure gauges.

I really want to order a new Head Unit but I need something that will run steering wheel controls and SirusXm at the same time. The Pioneer Units I've looked at have known issues with this. If you install SirusXM the steering wheel controls don't work.

Where are you located exactly for tax reasons, and what was your original MSRP on the car you are talking about ?

This doesn't make sense unless they share the same port on the back of the head unit.

I hope my dealer doesn't badge it. The license plate I'll let slide but no stickers. Those are a pain to remove. lol But I'll have them remove the plastic and skip the wash as I would like to wash it myself with my own detailing tools.

As long as there's no "residue" like she's claiming its going to have. Because then if they don't take it off themselves blah blah I'm gonna void some stupid paint warranty blah blah. Let me wash my own car lady. You gonna come home and give me a bath too?

There was a little residue on mine but it just came right off. I also had them remove the plastic when I got there but no wash, badges or plate holes.
