Default 2012 Base model steering wheel control upgrade

So I located a 2012 Impreza steering wheel WITH all the controls on it. Now I just need a clock spring.

The radio controls will be simple. (aftermarket steering wheel control module)

BUT,
Does anyone have any idea whats involved in installing the cruise control?

Does Subaru offer it as an aftermarket option?

The car is fly by wire, so it should be rather simple correct???

as far as I know, cruise control is a factory option. the only source is probably the wreck yard, and probably requires ecm reprogramming.
what I like to find out about is if all the wiring required is already present in the base's clock spring. otherwise swc appears to be a mechanical fit of different subaru 2011 model.

I pulled the Subaru OEM parts diagram for 2012 impreza, base, premium & limited. the clockspring does NOT have a part number and looks to be NA.

I am going to have to wait to pull the steering wheel to look if the base model is already wired for the other options. As far as actually programing the cruise, I wonder if it has a seperate module or is integrated? I'm gonna have to do some more homework...

anyone know were I can get a wiring diagram?

I looked it up in the service manual, these are the components listed

ECM
Steering Wheel Controls
Stop light & Break Switch
Cruise Indicator lights
Transmission Control Module (CVT only)
Inhibitor Switch (CVT only)
Neutral Position Switch (Manual only)
Clutch Switch (Manual only)

So it would seem I was in error when I said there is a separate module somewhere; it is true for CVT, but not true for Manual.

this is JUST the steering wheel controls, the company says its ALL thats needed to install cruise control on the 2012 impreza... http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-SUBARU-...eeec43&vxp=mtr

If thats true, I'm pysched

I still wonder about the clock spring... I'm gonna have to wait till next month when I get back from Army training to find out !

dorkbert is there any chance you have a link to the service manual?

I bought the service manual as PDF off fleaBay for something like $16 earlier this year. I think they can now be had for half of that.
I rather doubt the swc cluster is all that you need to enable cruise control; these SWC are nothing more than resistor networks wired to buttons. I have not gotten around to installing the clusters, but I suspect wire harness in the steering column is missing all the wires. It's still questionable if the clockspring contains all the wires as well.

This leads me to expect that it's not as simple as adding the steering wheel control.

I doubt the harness is missing it, like trunk swaps with the sedans..its all wired for both the sti wing 3rd tail light and the wrx one its just a matter of hooking it up.

Hey, have any of you succeeded in putting the swc into a base manual trans and getting the cruise to work? I have so many people telling me it will work and so many saying it won't. Not sure who to believe at this point.

Hate bumping an old thread, but before I start a new one...

Anyone have any success with adding factory cruise to a base model impreza?
