Default Head question

Noob question.... I have an 05 rs sohc. I believe it's ej251. Will the 253 sohc heads fit my car?

The 05 RS has an EJ253 in it. That's what mine has and it's the same engine from Subaru

it's a 253 without the AVLS that the later 253's have.

I'm sure the heads would fit physically but mechanically/electronically it would require modification and some way to control the AVLS.

You should look into the coolant/oil passages and HG fitment if you get that far.

OP only asked about 253 heads...never mentioned AVLS
