Default Any good mechanics in Baltimore for a used car inspection?

I'm considering buying an 07 WRX Wagon with 50k miles from a local Dodge dealer, it looks clean but there are two issues with it:

One, I can't drive manual and only understand the parking-lot basics. I'd learn on this so I'm concerned about the transmission after 50k miles (YES, I already know the WRX doesn't really have a bullet-proof trans)

Two, No real warranty (Excluding the 90 day warranty they give me). I'd like to have someone look it over just to be sure I'm not missing anything.

Can anyone suggest someone in Baltimore / within 30min of Baltimore that I could have inspect the car on my dime? I'm totally new to Subarus and am not really sure what to look for.

It had to be maryland state inspected for them to sell it so there shouldnt be any issues. The most important things would be to check the carfax and to check the exhaust, turbo, and intake areas to see if it looks like it was ever modded.

It is state inspected, If there really isn't anything to look out for I guess I'm set. Already checked turbo, exhaust, intake.

yeah, you should be good. Im a state inspector, but if you're buying this from a legit dealersip and not a fly-by-night used car lot you should be fine with the inspection.

I had a family member come out and drive it, it was alright and its worst issue was a few rattles.

Dealer WOULD NOT budge, they wanted $18,000 for a 3 owner 51k mile WRX Wagon with 3 decent dents in the hood.

After 4 hours of back and fourth I walked.

Good for you. They probably overpaid for it. That's a $16k car AT BEST from a dealer.

It was really nice and low(ish) mile WRX Wagons around here seem hard to find. Other than three dents in the hood it looked very clean. I saw one slightly cheaper than this on carmax once and I'm wishing I jumped on that..

My real hope right now is to call them in a month and say "Want to work out a deal now?" if it sits.

That's a tough thing to do with something you really want.

I do want to say something about the claim that if it's a dealership, the car has to be MD state inspected, and so there shouldn't be any problems... STILL CHECK THE CAR OVER. Also look carefully at the inspection ticket to make sure the VIN is recorded properly. I bought my old 2.5RS at a dealership, and it never should have passed state inspection, as it was missing the rear seatbelts (which I didn't notice until I offered to drive some friends somewhere), it had clear turn signal lens, a bad oxygen sensor (the CEL came on for this during the drive home, and the dealer told me it was a loose gas cap, "tighten it another click and the light should go off in a few cycles"), and other issues that a reputable place would never have let slide. I was too naive, believing that a MD state inspection facility would pass a car like that. But, I should have known better, as my brother has his state inspection license, and has seen coworkers get nailed (fined, loss of license, etc.) for falsifying certificates. My brother is so careful about state inspections that he won't even inspect cars that I or my boyfriend buy because he doesn't even want a hint of improper behavior.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that if you buy a car that is pre-inspected in Maryland, you might still want to look at it closely.

Good luck with finding another car.
