Default Speed3 to wrx?

Hey guys. Former sti owner here. Had an 06 a few years back. Currently I have an 07 mazdaspeed3 and I may have an opportunity to make a switch to a 2013wrx without changing my monthly payments. Curious if anyone here has made the switch from a speed3 to wrx a what your thoughts are

My hesitations:
I'd be getting a base so id be giving up HIDs, leather and premium sound from my speed3. Also I think the stock wrx stance is pretty crappy (no offense) and my speed has rx8 wheels giving it a nice stance.
Biggest hesitation as a former sti owner is that it wouldn't be an sti but a base wrx

Pros:
Awd
Brand new car, no potential costly repairs maintnence in the near future.

What would be the difference in your payments if you bumped it to an STi? Would that bump be worth it to you to have the things you want in a car? Maybe sell the S3 privately and come up with a few extra $$ to help offset the cost difference...

I personally wouldn't hesitate to make the switch. I really don't like the torque steer in the S3. All that power is nice but you have to work too hard to harness it (for my tastes.)

hids: aftermarket hid kit or do a retrofit
leather: custom katzkin (1200) or other custom leather/vinyl for cheaper >(1200)
sound: new headunit speakers are decent unless you want a full audio package.

If you don't want the wrx just stick with the 3 and beat the snot out of it, if you want a wrx you can do the mods above or get a trim that offers all of that, you can custom order a base wrx with leather seats from factory dealers do have this capability and I have seen it done, otherwise you can get the seats done yourself.

Keep the Mazda. Pay it off, and then drive it into the ground. By then the next generation of WRX/STI will be available, and will have been on the market long enough for Subaru to have worked out any introductory issues.

You never come out ahead by trading in a car ahead of its time, unless it's a complete lemon POS. I get the impression the Mazda has been treating you well. It will continue to do so, if you take care of it. So just keep it and enjoy.

I personally came from a Mazdaspeed6 to the WRX Limited... and family that lives at my house has a Mazdaspeed3. Personally, I'm a huge fan of AWD, and I had the timing chain and turbo issue with my MS6 that lead to a blown engine...

After driving all three cars, I've gotta say that personally my favorite is the WRX (obviously). The stock WRX has 235/45 17's compared to the 225/45 18's on the RX8 wheels. The stock sound system in the WRX compared to the Mazdaspeed absolutely SUCKS. I don't really care about tunes and would rather hear that amazing boxer rumble, but just realize that you're going to have to upgrade the sound out of the box.

I have the Limited, so I've got the leather and HIDs, but I've gotta say.. you'll probably be better off with the stock cloth seats in the WRX. With the Limited's leather, the seats don't have that "comfortable hug" of the MS3. You will probably miss the HIDs too... One other small concern is the fact that the WRX feels loose compared to the MS3 stock, but a $90 (cheaper if you can find the millions around used) rear sway bar from the STI placed it right back into Mazdaspeed territory. I'm actually quite shocked at how much that one simple upgrade tightened it up... should come stock on the WRX.

Those are my opinions on your concerns, but for the entire package, I just love the overall performance and feel of the WRX compared to the other two. It literally takes everything you can throw at it. Some people complain about the WRX's 5-speed compared to the 6-speed, but I personally like the longer ratios, less shifting, and quicker pulls to (legal) speeds with the 5. But yeah, if you can go STI, check that out too... Personally, I could afford the STI but I didn't "need" it to be happy. But the STI would be a step up from the Mazdaspeeds, while the WRX would be more of a lateral move plus AWD versatility.
