Default Turn Signal: Flip Switch Fast, no lights, Flip Slow, Lights!

1998 Impreza OBS

I just put in new 1156? bulbs in my passenger rear corroded signal light and reverse light sockets that I took a dremel/grinder to and now have a solid connection. Before this, the rear bulbs didn't even work.

Now I have another weird issue.

1) If I flip them on halfway I get the (dash/3exterior) lights to pulse for a quick lane change.
2) If I flip then on full SLOWLY (or normal speed, non aggressive) I get the (dash/3exterior) lights to blink normally like they should
3) If I flip them fast/aggressively, I get fast clicking of the relay, but no (dash/3exterior) lights blink or do much of anything.

I've been reading up on how the relays and switches work, but I still haven't wrapped my head around why.

Also, there are no LED bulbs. A previous owner did have some additional wiring, security and 6cd changer, so it's possible something could be messed up.

I'd start by checking/replacing the flasher unit, it's like a relay and will be wherever the clicking sound comes from. That's the cheapest thing to do. If that isn't it, it sounds like probably the switch going bad.

Yeah, that's probably my next step unless somone knows that it's something else. I know a local guy with a steering wheel assembly with all the switches for $45 so I might just grab that.

Does the same relay control both left and right signal lights? I'm thinking if it's a common flasher, and it only happens on the right signal, it's probably the switch assembly.
