I have never been an installer, but I have heard that you can get wiring diagrams that help with the installation of security systems.
I know its probally way too early to get one for WRX, but I would like to install mine as soon as I can after getting it, and if the wiring diagram helps at all, that would help speed things along. Are these wiring diagrams straight from the manufactor, or somewhere different? How soon after (or before) a new release of a car do these wiring diagrams become avaliable? Would I even be able to get these, or are they specifically for install sites? Thanks, Philip

Get a professional to install your alarm. If you are spending the money on a new car why would you want to get cheap on the alarm. Most alarm companies give you a much better warrenty if the alarm is professionally installed, and sometimes even theft protection.

Alarm installation is extremely difficult. If you respect your car and yourslef, pay a pro to put it in. I've done dozens of stereo systems, including processors, DVD, LCD diplays, but still save the alarms for the people that do them every day.

I thank you all for your consern, but I feel very capable of doing it myself. You may have doubts, but I don't.
I have many issues with installers doing it. What I was asking, is for the wire diagram sheets that I have heard the install shops get. And was wondering about info on them. Thanks, Philip |

No,
the wiring diagrams you are speaking of come from a company that shops subscribe to. I don't know where you'll find them. Watch out for that airbag wire. Good luck. P.S. Have you ever looked at all the wires behind your dash??????? |

Thats what I wanted to know, thanks. I have a shop owner that will pull the wire diagrams that I need, but for a $10 charge. I was just wondering if I would be able to get it without going through him.
Yes, I have looked behind the dash. I have stated I am not an installer, but I do feel I have the experience to work on a car's electrical. I was looking for the wire diagrams to aid in the install. As I stated before, thanks for the concern, but I do feel very confident that I can do this install. Philip |

http://www.wiremagic.com/
included the diagrams for my 01 civ 2-3 months after it was released, so the WRX diagrams should probably be up within the month if not already |

Order the 2002 Impreza Wiring Shop Manual. Hundreds of pages with ALL the info you could ever want. And it's only 17.33 from any Subaru dealer. Part number MSA5T0216A.

Alan, thanks again for the information. I called my near by Subaru dealer and they wanted $30 for the wiring book. Plus, you have to pre-paid to order it. I went to www.subaruparts.com and order for much cheaper. Plus, I added on two more books that you recommended.
-wiring -gen. maintaince -body I don't have to go any where. The books comes to me. Saved me two trips to the dealer. |

I got my Wiring manual from my dealer in about a week. I strongly recommend checking out the shop manuals, they are really great. The intro manual has detailed normal maintenance plus lots more and is only $9.03, the body manual is $47.78 and shows how to take apart most any part of the interior. I did not order the engine, transmission, or chassis sections - not until I need them - if ever. I did get the "Mechanism & Function" book since at $43.80 it covers lots of systems. See Glenn's information.
These will also allow me to fix the glove box light, disable the driver's airbags, wire up the audio system, add the security system, and so forth. [This message has been edited by Alan (edited April 11, 2001).] |
