If the 04/05 uses the same bulb style it is as easy as popping the cover, undo the 2 bolts holding the tailight and just swap the two.

Otherwise you will need to swap the pigtail.

I did this. So my car is an 05 wagon. The donor was 07 wrx. Bulbs and plugs simply didnt fit into the housing. I am unsure if there is a disconnect located somewhere inside of the vehicles body. But what I did because i am lazy was simply cut and splice. Take note on wire colors because they are a little different from each other but in essence the same. Dont use butt connectors they will rust. Solder and heat shrink. For added protection I put some electrical tape. Work great and I really like the reverse lighting.

AGAIN FOR THE PEEPS THAT PUTS PEEPS ON BLAST. I was lazy and didnt bother to see if there was a connector inside the vehicle to simply disconnect and reconnect.

Unfortunately, you should have gotten the bulb-sockets from the donor car.

This is the same problem with the sedan tail-lamps. The bulb-sockets are not interchangable between the: 2002-2003; 2004-2005; and 2006-2007 USDM model years.

*******

I agree to either use solder and shrink-tubing or butt-connectors with the shrink-tubing ends.

i havent gotten anything yet im basically tryin to see what materails/tools i might need in order to do the swap or make it poss.
i honestly wish there was a basic layout with instructions or a how to vid/thread ha that or i knew someone thats done it before that i could pay to do it. because quite honestly this sounds a lil over my head in the electrical field of knowledge.

I think I know what the other problem is.

If I recall correctly, it's not only do you need the bulb-sockets with the lamp, but the wiring itself to the connector is different between the years.

So even if the bulb-socket connector plugs into the car-side of the harness, the wiring pin-out is different.

This is super easy job. Cut 1 side at a time. Take your time with soldering (get the best one radio shack offers and some flux). Small size shrink tube and a lighter or heat gun. Cut, strip, put shrink tube on away from stripped wires, twist stripped ends, brush or blob some flux on, apply solder to tip of iron, touch the wires with flux and it should pull the solder to the wires. Hold for a second and remove. DON'T BURN YOURSELF SO USE PROTECTION AROUND YOUR LAP. Slide heat tube up when cooled. Heat with lighter for a nice finish. Or just look it up on YouTube.

Forgot to say have a damp rag or proper soldering iron cleaner. After finishing each wire clean tip and coat with small amount of solder to prevent damage to tips from oxidizing or what ever

Potential of painting the insides? Though I like 04-05's, after I painted mine I think it looks way better
