If your looking for a lens that your going to be shooting motosports where you need to be zooming in and out it might be worth it. I personally sold my 55-250 for my 70-200 and love it. I like being able to zoom in with a constant aperture. Have you looked at the 24-70 2.8? My dad just picked it up, I wanna taken it to a meet one day, it seems like a good focal length to have when shooting multiple cars plus the dof of 2.8. He got version 1 refurbished directly from canon for like 900 bucks right after black Friday , thought it was a pretty good deal.
I'm going to use it mostly for motor sports. The faster AF is going to hopefully improve my keeper count. I'm sure I will use it for other stuff as well.

I thought about this as well but then I started thinking of all the things I can use it for. This lens will be great for my son's little league games and my nephew's soccer games as well. I will think about it some more and weigh out all my options before I buy it next month.

And one more taken with the 55-250. I can't wait to work on my panning technique when it gets nice out!

I actually think those are a perfect reason to buy a 70-200mm. I probably will when my son gets to that age.

My twins will also be walking soon. (I think they are right around your sons age.) It will be nice to have the fast AF when they start running around the yard. I just want to make sure this upgrade will be worth it over my 55-250.

They most likely are. These were taken when I received the new to me 5dm2. I was battling direct sunlight the whole time. =/

I also didn't have a 77mm polarizer with me =(

I got all of the right equipment a tad late lol.

I love it for portrait work. Good compression, and reasonable working distances. I don't really use it for cars though. I like the look of 200mm.

I use it more for automotive and less portrait. It is my favorite automotive lens.

A couple of examples.

It is great...on par with the rest of the primes. I even used it at the track once and it handled fast moving objects pretty well.

Thanks man! Some people are a little taken back that I'm working with only the kit lens, a 50 f1.8 and a 10-22mm lol. I need some new glass in my life
