Hey guys, I have a bunch of people asking me to take pictures of their cars. I would like to start making a "couple bucks" doing it. Can anyone give me any advice or tips on how to start out, what to charge, or anything else? They obviously know I'm not a pro and I'm not looking to make a fortune here. (although that would be nice!) Any advice is appreciated!

Everyone thought my pictures were great and a few people here and there wanted pictures but I never knew what to charge. Obviously your pictures are higher quality, and more than mine ever were but I started out just asking for lunch in return for some pictures, and I even had $25 to pay for a flickr pro account. It depends on what they want, or what is worth to you. You might not feel like you deserve to be paid but make it worth your time. Friends and acquaintances are a little different

That's exactly how I feel. I know my pictures aren't the best but they are obviously better than what they could do or they wouldn't be asking. It's more of a time thing and the money I have invested in equipment. It's not much at this point but like I said, it's more than they have. Same thing with portrait stuff. I've had people ask me if I can take pictures of their kids but I just don't know how to get started here.

Thanks! Yeah, I may look into some fluorescent tubes. I just don't do enough light painting as I'd like.

Thank you! I almost ended up with a sedan, but have always been a fan of hot hatchbacks.

Final and BTS.

Final has a few upload to Facebook and save cycles, so the quality is crap.

Anyone know why the Canon bodies have dropped in price? The 5D3 is under 3 grand and the 7D is under 1300. I know the 6D is coming out soon, is there newer version of the 7D coming out?

Supply vs Demand

7D is 4 years old. The OMG Its a new camera I must have it phase is over with. Furthermore, when you buy an item, youre not only buying the physical item, youre buying the R&D that goes into that item. Being 4 years old, the R&D has likely been paid off.

5DIII is now has a supply somewhat equal to its demand so prices are stabilizing.

The 5DII now has a supply higher than its demand due to the 6D and 5DIII, so its price will continue to slip until its discontinued.

And so on and so forth. Not many things stay at the same MSRP for its entire sale life.

Maybe I'll pick up a 5D2 when it hits rock bottom price.

Quick shot behind my work that I took last night. I wish it wasn't -10 outside up here in Alaska right now :-(

Edited it Lightroom. Canon T2i w/18mm-200mm lense.

Playing around with some old pictures since I haven't had a chance to shoot anything lately. Did a little split toning to give a hint of blue.

Canon T2i / 85mm f/1.8 / 400 / f/2.0 / 320s

Both cars are looking good but how much do the wheels rub on your STi?

Ah my bad, I didn't see you put that above it. Scrolled over it too fast and thought it was an image link of off a image sharking website.

Sorry about that.

CANON EF 24-85mm USM F/3.5-4.5, it's an og lens and it was super cheap and wanted something different than the kit lens.

Nice, let me know what you think. I'm very close to pulling the trigger on some L glass. I just don't know what direction I'm going in yet. I don't want to have to keep upgrading, I want to do it once and that's it.

I would also suggest the 85mm f/1.8 USM. Super sharp, under $400!!!

I hear you, it's all a learning process and it's good that this stuff is easy to sell most of the time. I'll be taking some shots saturday if it's not raining and post them up.
