I think L glass (Or the nikon equivalent) should be the first priority TBH. Get an entry level DSLR like a T2i - T4i. Invest in very nice glass and then upgrade your body to a 7D or 5D when you find you are being limited by your body. I've been shooting over 2 years and I still don't see a need to upgrade from a T2i.

![]() From the same set as earlier, just slightly 'modified' I need to brush up on my PS skills though, it's been a while and it definitely shows. |

My guess is cloudy day and low ISO. I would have liked to see it shot at a slightly larger aperture though.

So I have been reading almost everything i can in this thread. Ive been afraid to shoot at night, especially without an extra light source. However last night was foggy and i couldn't pass it up. So this is my first time trying to shoot at night. All criticism is welcomed!!! Canon T3. 75-300mm. 75mm - ISO 100 - f/4.5 - 8 seconds.

Cool silhouette shot, sweet bokeh, I like the fog adds a pretty cool feel. If I were to give you any crits, it's that I'm not too crazy with the composition, but that kind of thing can be easily worked on next time you shoot!

Looks great Xero!
I have a quick question about shutter speed for you gents. General rule of thumb: higher shutter speed with lots of natural light vs slower shutter speed for night shots? |

Are you asking which we prefer?
Personally I prefer natural light with a smaller aperture. Blowing the image out by shooting at F1.8 is nice if you're shooting portraits or trying to focus on a specific item but for general shooting I prefer the 'F8 & Be there' rule. Obviously you can't always have ample natural lighting. In those cases I pull out an LED light source for side/back lighting and throw the speedlight on the camera because I don't really like shooting over 400 or 800 ISO. |

Im more so asking what the hell to do haha. I'm just starting to get into this and I know its best to find out differences by just playing with the settings and finding the sweet spot, would just like some basic knowledge.

I like the Christmas tree shot! I'm assuming you just used manual focus to do that intentionally? I actually tried this a while ago on my lights outside but I couldn't get it the way I wanted. I'm going to try the tree next.
