Just got my Manfrottos 055XPROb legs with my 498RC2 ball head. Did some quick test shots while the sun was going down. I also used my remote shutter.

Canon T2i, 85mm f/1.8 USM, CP filter, tripod, edited in Lightroom 4
ISO 100 / f/2.8 / 85mm / 0.3s!!!!

That shot I pulled the strobes out. SB800 to the right and one to the left. 1 frame. Smoke on the first one was PS.

^^^ Damn it, now I don't want to post mine.

Here are the last few from my tripod testing. I can't believe I ever shot without one. No more blurry photos for me. I've been on a de-saturated kick lately I don't know why. Anyway....thoughts?

Found some old pics, All Garage shots all shot w natural light. Just not touched up a tad in Pshop.

1.) No idea what lens this was, it was shot w my old D80 though. (my friends brothers 72' BMW 2002

2.) Shot w my 300s, and Tokina 11-16 2.8
(Met this guy while shooting freelance in the hamptons, he took me back to his garage...i wasn't disappointed)

3.) D300s. Dont remember the lens anymore
(got to know one of the techs at Dyson Racing, and he showed me Mr. Dysons private collection, this is Chassis 001 Porsche 962)

Thanks! I'm very happy with the quality and sharpness from such a low shutter speed. (lower than I'm use to anyway) I can't wait to play around with it some more!

The first one looks great, but the second one just looks a little sloppy. Any reason why you didn't fill in under the hood scoop? And that small amount of orange ambient hitting the front middle of the car is killing me haha. Otherwise you seem like you know what you're doing!

Yeah but you might have to put the light on a stick to get that. It's a hard reach.

Not as cool as some of the pictures on here but got to try out a new camera my friend had. It is a D600 with a 50mm prime. This is the first time using the camera/lens, thought it came out pretty cool. Waiting to get a new DSLR and a few lenses this year.

Just playing around with my tripod a little more. I can't seem to get even lighting on my car and it turns different colors. (mostly purple) this isn't the best composition but it's nice to be able to shoot in low light at such a low ISO!

Open shade (indirect sunlight) will cast lots of cool tones on reflective surfaces when trying to white balance for the foreground (where everything is one white balance). You can compensate in LR by changing the purple/magenta hue in the color slider, but, the color is pretty consistent IMO.

As for the lighting, you are taking a photo of a big mirror Everything is reflective on the car. Just be mindful of the major stuff. Overall there isn't a lot of distracting reflections except for the side-body reflecting that patch of snow. Everything else seems pretty minimized.

INKMAN, have you tried multiple polarizations yet? I did some today and probably took 12 different polarizations for each photo. Then I layered them an chose which ones I wanted. For the final images I usually only took 3-5 photos, but by taking more I could basically choose exactly which reflections I did and didn't want.

Depending on how steady your tripod is you may still need to align layers in Photoshop. If they are even off a little it will be come very obvious.

I currently don't have photoshop so I'm kind is stuck at this point. I feel that I've hit a road block because I have no new cars to shoot and I think I maxed out Lightroom. I need something new to inspire me again. Practicing on my car is getting old quickly.
