Post Why do you guys keep closing threads?

Geez, why don't you just shut down the whole board? That's where this is headed.

fascism: "a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control"

Oh wait, let me guess. This one will be either closed or deleted immediately right?

Let me thank you beforehand for proving my point...

why do they do it? because they can. This board belongs to Alex, Nick (and Robert) and they can do as they please. We're privledged to have this resource and community. The moderators do a wonderful job of keeping this place under control.

and with that...IBTL

Whatever.

Some threads are closed because there were basically too many negative comments about the WRX. That's it. That's keeping things under control?

Sure, there's an owner of the site and board, but they don't have to keep reminding people who's God every 4th post.

This forum is nowhere close to being out of control. This is maybe the best car forum on the entire web. And that's NOT because of the tight moderation. It's because of the maturity level of the posters.

History has taught us that people who police themselves are the most well-behaved and the happiest.

If somebody posts something that's obviously inappropriate, then the membes should call them on that. This dictatorial control thing is way out of hand.

Where is this excessive modereation that seems to have you so offended?

And no, I'm not going to lock this thread because you disagree with me.

the last thing I want to do is prove you right.

Have a Nice Day?

How many flame wars do you see here on this board where a whole bunch of people gang up on a single person and burn them with a fire the size of a nuclear bomb? How often do you see trolls posting and pouring fuel on a fire that they've started? "Very few" is the answer to both of these questions.

Yes, the Imprezidents and moderators do lock threads and delete threads. Why -- because sometimes the thread belongs in another forum or because it is taking on a very negative and disrespectful tone.

There IS a set of regulations for the i-board and these guidelines have kept this board clean, mature, informative and fun for everyone! I've seen some other boards where it's a "free for all" where the members "police themselves" and it's just disgusting the language that they use there and the maturity level at those boards is ALWAYS matched to the lowest common denominator.

Anywayz, as for your comment:
Quote:
History has taught us that people who police themselves are the most well-behaved and the happiest.
I take it you haven't read Lord of the Flies or Animal Farm?

Anywayz, the moderators have been following the guidelines and regulations that have been set up to moderate the board, and to me personally and I'm sure to the majority of the people out there, they have done an excellent job of moderating and maintaining the board!

I've said my piece. I hope this thread dies by nobody else posting a reply. Am I being a hypocrite by replying to it -- yup, but it feels good to get my word in!

IBT(non)L!

LaterZ!

Actually I think they don't close enough threads. This board is great but with all the new influx of WRX folks, it can create problems. Strict moderation should be enforced and I for one am glad the moderators are not afraid of closing down threads. Best to have a clean board I think.

Basically everyone above said the reasons why threads are closed. But if you really look I think the majority of threads are actually just moved to different forums, but it keeps the locked thread icon in the existing forum. This is simply good moderation.

And as I've said before, and Alex will agree with me 150%... you don't like it... we won't shed any tears seeing you go.

This has to at least be the 10th time in the history of the i-club that this happens. One, or a few, start to complain that moderation is to harsh... maybe it is, but that's why the i-club survives and thrives. Tell you what, you show me another club that has grown, and continues to grow, as quickly as the i-club and look at how they moderate. And keep in mind the i-club has been growing by about 250+ members a month since the end of 2000.

The moderators do a great job, and mostly let alex and myself try to tend to other needs of the board.

Thanks to all the Moderators. You are very much appreciated.

I should also point out that we get emails and PMs asking us to lock or delete threads that have gone out of control. In that sense it is somewhat self policing.

Oh the PM's...
Sure get a healthy amount of those.

Moderators as a group try to close/delete with the intrest of the majority of the board.
but there will always be people on the other side of whatever decision we make.

Just how it goes.

Um... I thought that, by appointing moderators, we are in fact policing ourselves? I think they do an excellent job in keeping this forum together, keeping discourse flowing, and making sure that the signal to noise ratio is more than bearable.

On that note, shouldn't this be moved to Off-Topic?

wow... this again eh?
why do we have to explain ourselves?

i get tired of it and do TIRE of it...

we lock them because...
*we need to
*we are asked to
*to keep a level of sanity, of focus
*maintain the rules that the Imprezidents have set for this site...

if there are no rules... chaos takes over... and we become... something we DONT want to become... gak...! the thought!

the iclub is special... and i really enjoy my time here... reason is... because it's well maintined, formatted, and has still managed to remain a constructive, informitive site...

u dont like it??

go... away...

plain and simple.

BTW, take a look at some of the other BBS! I mean, for those newbies who don't remember the first big change - when we didn't have "moderators" and www.impreza-rs.com was run off a public server - we had some really negative threads. Not as bad as what was going on at other placed, but it was getting there!

Anyways, all the "old" guys back then completely agreed that the new forum would have a strict policy and somewhat aggresive moderation to prevent this respectable place from complete deterioration!

Well, this board is really geared for a place where ideas and knowledge can be exhanged, and not a place to have a "pissing" contest .

[EDIT]
Oops, finally scrolled low enough and found the OT forum!

Wait, bryanw, if my memory serves me right, when Imprezer started the thread on what people felt about moderation (this was a really long time ago), you didn't like it at all!

Anyways, I don't think you've ever had a thread closed on you (as far as I've bumped into).

Kinda neat?!?! Kinda neat?!?! Off-Topic is where all of today's contemporary philosophers are currently debating thoughts that we mortals can only dream of!!!

(it's way down at the bottom of all the forums...hmmmm..is that relevant???)

>>>Anyways, I don't think you've ever had a thread closed on you

This is the whole reason for this post in the first place. Closed threads used to be very, very rare. But recently, it seems like every 5th or 6th thread is closed in the 2nd page.

In fact, the reason I posted this was because just this morning, there were THREE threads that I wanted to reply to and they were already closed. I'm not naming any names, but they were all closed by the same person. I'm just wondering why this person is driven to close the threads. I can't, for the life of me, find anything wrong in the threads. They were just getting somewhere and then you see "THREAD CLOSED" at the top with no explanation whatsoever.

Rule with an Iron Fist! I don't think that i have ever seen a thread closed that didn't need to be. Things can get out of hand quick if not and end up in a flame war, I for one hate it when that happens. Subies are civilized!

Jamie, why don't you yell at the newbie about doing a search? We all know this has been covered at least 10 times.

so sorry to make it personal...
but first of all... dont call me "Jamie" - you dont know me.. or the first thing about me other than what i want you to know...

and... you guys are right.. i dont enjoy locking threads.... i dread it.. because it brings out the worst in people... case in point right here...

so please forgive my sarcasm... and for taking this personally... it's truly not as easy as it looks...

and i never... anywhere ever... have called anyone on this board an ass...

altho.. i may one day

Bottom line is, stupid and pointless threads will be closed and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Currently I am picking ~4 more people to become moderators and really control this board. The board is not in its best shape right now. We regularly have people calling each other whores, asses, buttheads etc. That is not acceptable. Not becuase those are such bad words, but rather if it starts off with a "whore" there will be no end to it. I will not let this board get spoiled and I will do anything possible to keep it clean and nice. Those people who don't like it have other options (oh, wait, they don't ) so just get used to it and even help us keep it organized.

My thread was closed because I'm selling my S2000 on this board, in order to buy a WRX. BTW, it was posted in the For Sale section. It appears I'm not allowed to post a non-Subaru classified in the i Club. Can an exception be made based on the good intentio of the sale?
