I agree, although a bit of fatty, it is the sexiest evo yet. If I was ready to buy now it would be a close call between the two for me. Thankfully I will be ready in about a year. By then we should have a good idea what the next STI will be and hopefully offset the scales for me.

Active Yaw Control uses a torque transfer mechanism in the rear differential to control rear wheel torque differential for different driving conditions and so limit the yaw moment that acts on the vehicle body and enhance cornering performance.

It's a great system as if the car senses you are not in a performance mood it will behave in a typically safe manner keeping the rear end tucked in around corners but when you are in a sporting mood or on a track it lets the rear end play like a drift car. Marvelous technology and a hoot for us regular people that don't have enough time on our hands to practice perfect driving skills. DCCD in auto or manual is incapable replicating this type of torque distribution and who wouldn't want an STI that maintains its all-weather traction in the winter and behaves like a BRZ in the summer?
you simply stated you were looking for more rear bias, and not a car that acts like FWD. I supplied the solution.

move the goalposts a bit more.

ah, good job, you read my mind and moved the goalposts even more. so first, subaru doesn't employ enough tech, now it doesn't matter how much tech, so long as it does the job.

we're back to DCCD.

here's the crux of it:

anyway, how long in advance of release has subaru done testing like this in the past?

Subaru is very secretive about their new vehicles. They however want to naturally build up anticipation and carefully release tid bits like this mule. Its just enough to make it a conversation piece but still pretty much say nothing about the car. To answer your last question. This car could have started development along side the BRZ. As a matter of fact, I consider the BRZ as part of the development of this car.

yeah, I'm not keeping my hopes up (and frankly it doesn't matter for me, other than just the oohing and ahhing), ultimately only Subaru knows, it just doesn't make sense to me that they would be doing complete drive-line testing for warm weather too far out from release.

Too far out from release? If something was wrong, wouldn't they need time to fix it? Or do you want a 2015 release?

I was thinking the same thing. I am glad they are doing all this testing with enough time to iron out all the wrinkles.

I'd imagine any failure of a single part is relatively simple to tweak into compliance and fix the issue. It's not like they're going to have to redesign the engine, maybe fit a bigger oil cooler, rework some ducting, or reprogram the fans to come on sooner. They have their deadlines and stuff.

I personally am not in a hurry as I want Subaru to iron out all the bugs before releasing it. I may be ready for one or the Forester XT with the DIT FA20 motor by then...

Do you guys think that, considering the trouble Subaru has been having with keeping up with Impreza orders that the WRX will be pushed back another year? 2015? 2016?

Seems like an awfully long time to drag out the last of the 3rd Gen body styles.

JustyWRC might have have a better handle on this but I would say no. He believes it will be a 2015 possibly introduced at the car shows in 2013 and brought out in 2014 as a 2015 model I think. I hope he is wrong and it is introduced early 2013 and brought out in late 2013 as a 2014.

At the dealership now for a kinked AC drain hose. 2013s are here. 1 XV, 2 BRZs, 2 WRXs and 2 STIs in the lot. Still loving the 3rd gen WRX//STI....sweetness....

He probably means Edgewater Heights in Michigan, which is about 14 miles from the Subaru R&D center in Ann Arbor.

So was it the black turbo BRZ mule seen in Michigan or this 2012 Impreza with Scoop mule?
