While every one is focussing on the new wrx, the outback on the left of it is a testmule also!

What makes you think that? The Outback had a pretty substantial update for '13. It's probably just there as a support vehicle.

Wow is this 2007? I remember reading the same crap from the 02-07 owners...
This car will be awesome, gonna be some early haters, but after the initial release, especially when the aftermarket gets going, this will be the best WRX yet

The hood is up also! And test wiring around the miror. My guess is the new 2.0 DIturbo is in that car also. Not only hot weather testing but also the american low octane fuel to test the higher compression ratio.

No it is 2002
No no it is 2004
Wait maybe it is 2007
It's probably 2010

Every single new iteration that comes out some yahoo thinks his older car will be worth more since the new one is so ugly

News flash folks, that has never happened ever in Subaru-land
I am gettin too old to be here, I am becoming grumpy

I think it could still be argued that the GC was the best design, GD was a close second, and GR was just a bloated pig. Can't say any of these designs I thought were ugly at first ever grew on me, except maybe the hawkeye. Maybe I am the only one but I was hoping for a new WRX design that isn't uglier than the last one for a change.

I wouldn't get too upset about the looks since this is clearly a mule. I just hope we get a more agile car with better driver interface. If the new wrx inherits the brz's steering feel, transmission and seats I will be happy. Obviously it won't handle like a brz but there's certainly room for improvement there, too. And if not I'll keep the wagon for foul weather and get a brz. Either way I'll be getting a new suby next year.

Do the insides of production WRXs have shoddy duct work and random pieces of plastic all over the place?

Nah.

The 2013 WRX is already on sale.

Probably going to be buttugly, and there are those like me that will buy it as long as it is smaller, lighter, faster and a coupe or 3 door. Then there are those who won't just for those reasons.

I still am not convinced this is a mule for a WRX. Subaru has listened to its customers before and added/corrected features. Could this not simply be a turbo Impreza being tested for next year?

Although I love my 2.0L Impreza, Subaru is gonna have to step up a bit on the exterior styling if they are going to drop in a turbo FA20 motor into it....'Aggressive' please!!!

A six speed turbo impreza would be way too close to the wrx/sti from marketing perspective imo.

Maybe the WRX will be 6speed and the sti will get some electronic dual clutch 6 speed like the evo perhaps?

It could be a mule for a gasoline turbo engine that they may be planning to use in the VX, or the next generation Forester.

Another possibility is that they saw that the current growth opportunities for compact Subarus are in the BRZ and VX models and decided against the expense of developing a separate platform for the WRX and STI. In other words, for every WRX/STI sale that they would lose by doing this, they would still have one BRZ, and two VX sales to make up for the loss.

I wonder if there's still a possibility of a revolutionary electric turbo being implemented into the next wrx. If so, is it lurking under that hood? Zero turbo lag? Yes please!

Although the picture clearly shows a mule for the next WRX or STI (probably the latter), it is clearly dressed in the latest Impreza sheet metal. Body panels will probably look like this (I don't have to point out that this clearly has Impreza body parts):

Although I don't think it is that ugly, I must say I like the current body style better.

It looks like they are gonna go for a twin exhaust on the WRX... and by the look of things, quad on the STI.

As you can see, there's a reason why the exhaust is so low on the test mule. The rear bumper on the WRX is much lower than the Impreza. I wonder what the hell happened to the hood scoop though...

Current Impreza for comparison

I don't get it. The new WRX is supposed to be smaller. The current Impreza has a longer wheelbase. This only makes it worse for rally.
