That's not what I got out of the comments in the original post I quoted, and you must think more highly of everyone on the internet than I do. Just wanted to nip it in the bud before everyone wastes their time commenting on how awesome or how crappy it looks, or what other car it looks like, or that Subaru has finally pushed them too far and they're giving their money to another manufacturer.

Looks a little too much like the Mugen RR Advance for my tastes.

You can argue anything you want.. but the GR was built on a lighter chassis than the GD and the hatch is shorter in length than any other Impreza, so you're going to be blue in the face before you convince anyone with access to the internet that the GR was the bloated pig of the Impreza lineup.
The GR is not shorter than all previous impreza, but Subaru did a good job with the weight.

oh? Well... can't help but say that This reminds me of little children on Call Of Duty bitching at eachother. "Shut the **** up, my dad works with Sony / Microsoft, I'll get you banned and take your account" ( Highest Pitched Voice Possible )

On topic, it needs to be restyled a bit more...

OK fair enough.

And yes, the 2013 will be just like the Canadian version US wise.

Thing is, I don't trust any of the renderings I see. They didn't get it nearly right when the re-did the WRX in 2008 and I assume till proven otherwise the renderings are all exaggerated concepts. Now, if that mule ends up similar to the 2014 model, I think they have a decent design on their hands. Subaru said it would be its own line but in the same spirit as the Impreza. Supposedly not an Impreza though.

The thing with FHI though is that every few years we go through this same rumor mill and it always looks like their base line cars with beefy upgrades.

Time will tell.

I've been told that the photos I've linked show a car that would actually gap the bridge between the base Impreza and the WRX in some parts of the world. An Impreza Sport if you'd like. I'm not quite sure what to think of this. But if true, the car would not be turbocharged. It would only use a tuned-up, N/A version of the base engine. I think this is bull****... but I have to admit, it would explain the missing hood scoop (that is clearly present on the STI mule).

Another, more worrying (but very plausible) explanation: The next WRX will NOT get a turbocharged engine. Only the STI will. Food for thought...
I disagree with this. They still give a ton of support to rally events and they work directly with their sponsor-ees to develop the cars. Maybe some folks think the WRC is the only version of rally that should exist but the WRC is killing their own event. Thanks to Subaru rally is now more popular in the US as local event rather than a "world" event. Pulling in names like Pastrana helped to make it big.

I don't need more power than the WRX (It's already plenty fast) but 22 MPG of premium get tiring, especially with my wife's 45 mile/day commute. Don't try to outhink the spot Subaru, you know what you do well.
I'm with you here. I expect the WRX interior to be toned up a bit in style and quality over the Imprezas (they're just too basic) but not so much that a base WRX can start at $29k.

I expect ext. styling like the Advanced Tourer Concept that will only vaguely resemble the Impreza in any form. I'm not sure if I'm shocked more by the people thinking this mule is indicitive of final styling, or that people actually like that render...

I'm sure fuel economy will be better but I'm not getting my hopes up, it will still be bad.

Make the sedan for the hardcore guys and wagon-hating Americans, and a full-length wagon for everyone else a la the Advanced Tourer Concept - like the original WRX's!

Good call.. it was 1.6" longer than the GC.. and 2" shorter than the outgoing GD. Sorry.. I forgot how 'bloated' the GD had gotten toward the end, there.

Probably good that it got shorter, it was heavier than the GD even so. Could have been worse.

Why? Because they found out what happens when you hype/leak info with the BRZ.

I see all these pictures and all I can I think... is that it doesn't look like anything I'd be interesting in buying.

They need to replace the front bumper, front fenders, and back bumper with something more eye pleasing. I'd buy the rims.

I wonder why as well, it does seem that way though.....that would also explain why in some spy shots you have many detailed picks but no video of the actual testing.

Drive-train testing does not require the actual car it's going into to be performed. Been there and done that in Death V (even met Brenda Priddy).

The 6MT is welcomed.
assuming all that they'd need for a shorter wheelbase is a shorter driveshaft, would they need to do severe hot weather testing on it? It makes sense testing the engine and transmission for reliability, if they haven't been tested before, but if a (shorter) driveshaft is something off the shelf, no need to test.
