Okay so I wanted to help those out with this project, although i dont have step by step DIY stuff cause i already did it but i can help you out with it as much as i can.
Also I will post up other ppl's wrx's that i also found on the interwebz. Not trying to take credit for anyone else's car, just mine.

Stuff I used:

Fine Sand Paper to make it look presentable.

Patience, and of course the actual exhaust.

I sorta taped around where i wants to cut on both sides. So i know if its straight and across. nicely and similar on both sides. then i hacked away very slowly with the straight say, then used the adjusted one to cut across. It took tons of time but its very doable, I hate doing things myself in case i do it wrong but this one was pretty easy, trust me, just take you time. Bunch of pictures of it finished.

So i taped up the left and for how deep, i used the first "breaker" in the diffuser as the point on both, I'd say the left was easier. I went the two sides then the top part when i cut so it was more flappy.

How it ended up:

aww snap man, i'm so sorry. wish you the best of luck. my lil rexy held up strong so far, except yesterday when the a/c started to blow white smoke. idk what is it but it stopped so i hope its just some condensation.

P.S. the right side is not going to be smooth due to the factory one where they mold it to the single tip exhaust, its hardly noticable when you stand back anyway so i didnt want to or need to cut it but you could, be a pain in the arse though.
