Fog light bulbs, control relay, and added inline fuse going to relay coil. Was running straight to a switch before.

I rebuilt the intake system on the 99 2.5RS. charged up the battery. drove the rust off the rotors. Adjusted the headlights down a little. Put the studded tires on. vaccumed the interior out and changed out the dash light bulbs.

I put the BRZ tires back on the BRZ and cleaned the interior.

Preface: About 3 days after my oil change the car start to smoke up slightly and smell like burning oil. I shrugged it off figuring the must've gotten some oil on the pan or something while draining it for the change.

Took the little bugger in to get a possible leak figured out. The car started to smoke REALLY bad when driving today, so I drove immediately to Conti to get it figured out.
I spoke with Edgar as soon as I walked through the door. I told him what was going on and let him know how it progressed from nothing to an obvious something. I expected to make an appointment for the car to get checked out and rock a donor till it was inspected, but that wasn't the case!
Edgar got my car RIGHT AWAY saying that this was most likely something serious and something that shouldn't be happening. While I was letting Landon play the cars and blocks and such, I got an unexpected surprise of a STi hoodie that I had been eyeing for the last month or so! Just like that BAM! After a little wait Edgar informed me that it was a faulty oil filter and that they would replace it under warranty. Awesome. To be honest I was totally not expecting that.
15 minutes later I had my car back with a fresh oil change, a bad ass STi hoodie, and a popcorn filled Landon, haha.
Overall it was a great experience from Conti, who I always thought of as being, "meh", at best when it comes to service. This today changed my perspective a bit for the guys behind the desks. Thanks!

Only gripe I had is the fact they didn't clean or rinse my car's belly or undertray. The car was still smoking. But I washed it as best I could without removing the tray, so I'm hoping the smoke quits.

rear doors still work. not gonna do poppers or anything, the rear seats are out and no one really sits back their any more, the harness bar and stuff is in the way. I considered welding them shut but after the trouble we had welding plates where the door handles used to be we realized these subaru unibodies are made with too thin of steel and we'd melt right through it easily yet if the arc was too cool it wouldn't weld together. Pain in the ass.

Same here, but I figured that I would just accept what they told me and let them change/fix away.

And this way if my motor decides to blow up or seize they can trace it back to a "faulty" filter.

I'm thinking that the crush gasket wasn't put in place, or like stated it wasn't tightened. Oh wells.

It used to be far more rare, but recently within the past 6 months or so, I've seen a handful of oil filters fail. It's the seals that are failing. It's the reason why I purposefully brought an extra oil filter to Tanacross - just in case the one that was just put on my car the day before I left failed.

I brought two extra filters when I went to WA plus two gallons of extra oil. I learned my lesson when my PCV valve froze about 200 miles outside of Anchorage and all 5 quarts of oil exploded out of my dipstick tube. The tow truck wanted 800 dollars and that's with my roadside assistance. I had an extra gallon of oil in the trunk, poured that in, and even though there was barely any oil on the dipstick after filling up, I managed to get the Anchorage none of the worse for wear.

You never know when you're going to need it and well..oil is pretty damn important.

Crush gasket is for the drain plug, not the filter.

Doesn't seem like oil leaking out there bottom of the engine would cause smoke, but I'm not a mechanic.

I bet you have two oil filter gaskets on. The old one gets stuck sometimes and they never check and just stack a new one on it. I know a few people who had this happen to them.

I can honestly with my 15 years the automotive industry I've seen most that can be seen. From a mom coming in so I could get her son's pet snake out of the door panel it crawled into, to birds stuck in suspensions parts and still alive. Pulled the bird out and it flew away.

Whats not uncommon is leaking oil filters due to bad seals (or not tight) and drain plug crush washers not sealed or crushed properly. Or leaking due to being re-used or double gasketed. Its not so common now but it was to have an oil filter installed and double gasket due to the old filter leaving its gasket behind on the oil cooler. Stuff like that happened a lot and still does. It does cause smoke. On a WRX the exhaust manifold wraps around the oil pan and with oil spraying out from a filter it will get on the exhaust. It WILL smoke. So yes oil leaking from the bottom of the engine will smoke... and smoke rises. I put a motor back together on an 08 STi and when it got up and running it smoked me outta the garage lol Residual oil and coolant/brake clean will do that.

Thank you for clarifying that. While we're on the subject, I have an aftermarket magnetic drain plug that came with its own thick washer. I still have a bag of oem crush washers lying around, which one would you recommend using?

Awesome animal stories btw, I'd love to hear more.

I'm sorry about your bird, but he wanted to go that way, I'm sure. I mean, I would've want to die next to an STI badge.
