You'd never survive without knifing someone if you lived in places like Baltimore. Those people honk every time a traffic light turns green. It's like it's built into their muscle memory. It's truly amazing and I can't figure why except that EVERYONE must be in a damn hurry.

Yeah, these cars are thirsty! I hate disposing of my own oil.

Just a bit curious with the new 2 liter BRZ owners, do you folks have the oil consumption problems that plagued the original EJ205 and the 2.5 liter?

From what I've read, since the introduction of the FB25 on the 2011 Forester, oil consumption has been dependent on break-in procedure. People that have followed the manual's (and dealership's) break-in recommendation have seemed to consume more oil. Those of us that just drive the car like we normally would then do the first oil change at 1k or 3k seem to have normal oil consumption.

Some heavy hitters around NASIOC such as Element Tuning, Uncle Scotty, Crawford Performance, Mann Engineering, Matt Monson, No Limit Motorsport and your's truly () chimed in on the subject in this thread with the slightly dyslexic title:

Oil Consumption and the BRZ D-S4 Boxer

I just know that the BRZ takes the full 6 while the EJ25 in the WRX was about 5.5, usually. I'm actually a n00b when it comes to the EJ205. What's the story behind that one, pre-Chano?

I'm on the way out the door for a 24 hour shift. I will chime in on the EJ205 eventually. Just wanted to see the local viewpoint….our cooler temps may have a factor in things….wanted to see if the new gen motors were any different than before.

A year into my JDM swap….no consumption. Daily revs to >8000 rpm. Not bragging, just saying.

On my 4300mile trip my ej205 consumed about 3qts of oil. I added about every other day.

Where do you get 5.5 from?

For me that's just what was left over. I always used 5.5 bottles or so. Maybe 5.25? It was more than 5 quarts, but definitely less than the 6 that the BRZ uses. Were you thinking I brought in a 5.5 singular bottle for my oil changes?

No I just don't understand, the owners manual says 4.2. I usually use about 4.5. Why do people add more?

Ah. Maybe I'm recalling incorrectly? I just know I always had about half a bottle left over, whereas the BRZ has consumed ALL of my bottles + 1. If I gave 5 bottles with half a bottle left over, then you would be correct in that I used 4.5. This may add to my being dumbfounded as to how the BRZ's 2.0 could consume 1.5 more bottles?

The exterior aesthetics of the bugeye will undergo a slight change over the winter months...

why are you dumbfounded? its a completely different motor. larger oil pan capacity? oil passages and routing. does the timing chain get oil lubricated too? I don't know enough about them. But for comparison sake, they are completely different.

Yeah, I pretty much took all 6qt of oil. There was so little left in the last bottle that I tossed it. And I have had no oil consumption with my BRZ and I usually don't baby it with low rpm granny shifting lol. And I'm using subaru's labled 0w20.

Even my frankenstine built RS engine with 40,000 miles on it eats ZERO oil between changes with 5w30 oil from chevron

But I just go by what my experience is telling me.

Excited to see what you're doing. You've always had excellent taste. I wanted to get all of us bugeyes together when the snow flies for some special photos. When are you starting?

Put the springs, spacers, and wheels on last night. Ride is so much better! Easy to get in and out also, its like riding on a dream. Bumps and potholes do not phase this WRX.
