Time to do a fog light retro so we aren't 'blinded by the light'.

LOLZ

I'll be productive and contribute to the thread while I'm here.

Installed a new Oil Pressure Sending unit and Oil Pressure gauge, as the old one was pegged at 100 PSI all the time, and the LED illuminating the needle on the gauge crapped out last winter. Now I need to get a new Boost gauge to match the brightness...

The overlays really aren't going to do much, it's the type of housing that ultimately effects the glare. Halogen housings (projector housings included) are designed to focus the intensity of a halogen bulb, and the 30% additional light an HID puts out is typically scattered, which is what causes your glare.

Got my car back from the shop. New trunk and bumper cover, but the damn trunk isn't aligned worth ****. Giving it back next week, hopefully they figure it out. At least I have a car to drive over the weekend.

Depending on how it's was damaged, you may be able to claim it under Comprehensive Insurance.

I lost my under spoiler last winter due to an ice berm a plow left and USAA bought me a new one minus the $100 deductible.

Also had headlights replaced on another vehicle due to rock damage.

Worth a look.

That's why I've been looking into these for my car:

Plastic, projector housing, with yellow HIDs for actual usable light spectrum. I had glass with the WRX and they cracked easily. Even with the 2001 RS' fog lights I got chunks of glass taken off. But these stock plastic ones have been VERY nice to have in Alaska. No cracks, just dings like the headlights.

Yay or nay?

I concur, the glass OEM fogs that I've had on my 2.5rs and the ex-GF's 02 WRX all broke and chipped pretty bad. Plastic, or mesh covers would be helpful.

they make OEM foglight protectors for 08-10 Impreza. Who cares about glare from HIDs. As long as its not illegal to have HIDs in halogen headlights, every other dodge, ford, gmc, chevy bro truck will still be the ones blinding the F out of everyone else

It actually IS illegal to have HIDs in non dot approved housings. It's just not well enforced

Davin I'd suggest undoing that knot while you still can! Get a hook to clip into your Tow bolt from fasteners and fire off international.

That would be better than just a regular faceted reflector fog, but wouldn't give you great light performance. Could open it up and modify the cut off and it would be pretty good I bet.

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard #108 states that any replaceable element light source cannot be replaced with any other type of lighting source. Since HID uses a xenon gas, and a high voltage current to emit a rapid "spark", this is not a resistive element that gets hot and produces light as most vehicles were equipped with. I'm on my phone at the moment, but when I get onto my computer tomorrow I'll post some links. It's also illegal to sell or import them into the US for use on passenger cars. Agreed on the bro truck issue...

Not just non DOT approved (as a cheap Chinese replica will like have DOT stamped on the lens.), but it's actually illegal to have them in anything unless it was equipped with it from the factory. Agree that it's not well enforced at all. I'm writing a paper for my English class, may have an interview with the troopers about this. I'll post up when I'm finished.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Any good load on that, and you're going to have one hell of a time getting it undone.
