I SMH every time I see one of those Ram Daytona editions. Those spoilers are horrible on a truck.

I did see an orange one in town that took off his spoiler. I gave him a thumbs up...but he probably thought I had mental problems because he gave me a huge WTF look LOL

I saw that too and thought the same thing.

What made me laugh was the fat kid wearing a full length rain coat sitting on the paved shoulder across from the fairgrounds train depot with an orange plastic gun and waving it around. WTF!

It's annoying, but have had storms MUCH worse than this. Last bad one out here was blowing hard enough that fine snow was coming in through my windows. Was pushing the upper and lower pane apart a bit.... and my dish flew off my roof, no idea where it ended up, had to get a new one.
My wind meter on my weather station came apart from too many RPMs.

The real fun part after is trying to dig out drifts that are rock hard.

Would be just my luck.

I already have people blowing up Facebook asking how long the food will last in their fridge! Seriously, go to sleep and don't open it you'll be fine

Pretty much sounds like Anchorage is getting a mild taste of the wind we usually see out here.

Been many times that the wind was going to were I coudl hardly stand. Get to work on base and there isn't even a breeze.

It's the fact that the leaves were still on and the ground was not frozen causing massive trees to fall over. I think you have to go back to 1994 for our last big wind event where power went out and trees blew over, even then it was in the middle of winter.

Yeah, my Fiance saw some posts about that as well. Crazy how uneducated some people can be.

Yeah, it was pretty mild for us out there this go around. And I too remember getting to town late due to power outages from windstorms and people in Anchorage hadn't a clue there was wind.

While I agree the soft ground and increased foliage affected the downed trees, this is nothing new to other parts of Alaska. Infact the last few winters I've lost power due to high winds.

Really goes to show how many are not prepped for ANY type of "emergency".

I'm in the TLF on the Ft. Rich side. We had no power from 9pm yesterday to 8pm today. Meanwhile the AF side wasn't affected as drastically.

Funny thing is the female that works Ft. Rich lodging abandoned her office the whole night.

had some military folks cancel their appointments yesterday so they could go find an open store and buy ice for their fridge since they had no power. I laughed.

My guess.. depending on the time of their appointment, the fridge shouldve still been at a cool enough temperature to sustain the food within for some time. Therefore no need of rushing to get ice. Furthermore, a store that is finally open most likely had power out for some time during the night causing THEIR ice to melt a bit.

OR... could be something along the lines of military personnel that are trained to survive in harsh conditions and make do are frantic over some ice.

Yeah the canceling appointment thing seems silly as most places with ice are 24hours. I'm just wondering about the fridge thing since other people were talking about it. Despite reminding my wife NOT to open it yesterday morning, she did...
So I also got ice last night, and it was far from cold in there. Seems logical to me?
As far as I know our power is still out.
