Default according to txs: up/down-pipe, no cat-back?

just got off the phone w/ someone at txs. aftermarket up and downpipes do add noticeable power, and he admitted that the axle-back in their stage ones dont really do anything, and that all cat-backs are really just sound and looks modifications.

so im thinking, just to pass some cops on the streets (and save like $500), would it be the same thing running an up-pipe and dp w/ nothing else the same as w/ a cat-back? thanks.

well, the catback and axel back do add power, but hardly anything to brag about. they were just probably saying to put the money to better use... like an uppipe or downpipe which add a whole lot more power by eliminating cats.

Here is a dyno chart of when shiv added an aftermarket muffler to stage 0.

The lowest runs were stock, the middle run is Everything in Stage 0 minus the Unichip, and the very highest power run is adding a muffler on top of Stage 0.

Notice that while there is an improvement in power, it's in a very narrow range of the RPM band. Not much besides that little plateau between ~5300 and 6500

As you add more power and increase flow, the catback section will become more of a bottleneck, but it's so little of one compared to the up and down pipes.

The up and down pipes are a more noticeable gain because of the improvement across the entire RPM band and because of the improvement in throttle response.

shiv posted that previously, It doesn't get bigger unless you can get him to post a larger one. If you blow it up you can see some more detail, but it's still very tough to make out some of the stuff.

It's good enough to note the comparisons though.
