Default Driver side Contis Extremecontact DW blow out. Suggestions?

Hi,

As the title implies, both of my driver side tires exploded when I ran over a pothole a week ago. They are Continentals ExtremeContact DW 245-40/18. I have had them less than a year and there's plenty of tread life left (8-9/32nd). Apparently this is a known issue with those tires. Both Continental and Tire Rack are giving me the run around to have the manufacturer road hazard warranty kick in. This is because the DW have been discontinued and the new replacement (with higher load ratings, stiffer sidewalls) haven't come in yet.

My questions:
1. Should I wait for the replacements to come in, buy them, have them shaved down then put them on?
2. Would the different load ratings affect the center diff?

Worst comes to worst, I will have to buy 4 new tires.

Thanks1

Yeah, I had to inflate those DWs to at least 34-35psi since the sidewalls were so soft. Improved the steering feel somewhat but still crapola. Bye DW...

But he has a GR chassis which comes stock with 245/40R18 and still has more room to go.

the CORRECT +1 size would be 265/35 and that is WAY too big for the stock wheels

Lots of good info in here. I'll probably end up ordering them in 235s. I just came across that old thread where the OP posted a pic of his "255". That was a fat mother.
