Default '96 impreza wagon cruise control question.

I've got a '96 Impreza obs that I'd like to fit with an oem cruise control(CC), but it's been challenging finding the Impreza-specific parts at salvage yards. Would the CC from a Forester of a similar year fit my car, or do I need an Impreza wagon-specific CC? I found a Forester with a CC at a salvage yard, but didn't pull it because I wasn't sure about the compatibility.
I have a general idea of the parts I need such as the cable leading to the throttle, the dash-mounted cruise button, the steering wheel accel/decel/cancel stalk, the brake pedal interrupt switch, the vacuum drum(?) on the firewall, and an ECU. Any additions/corrections are welcome, along with any advice. I'm still a bit of a noob, so please keep that in mind when answering. Thanks.

Part numbers for add-on c.c. kits were different for almost every model year, but many of the changes were minor. Still, the only way to be sure is to look at the wiring diagrams for both the donor and the recipient. Even though c.c. was not a factory option on US & Canadian Impreza, it is still shown on the schematics. The thing I would worry about the most is the pin-out of the connector between the control unit and the dash harness.

Actually, according to kbb.com, cruise control became a factory option on the Impreza Outback in 2000. That said, thanks for the tips regarding the connector and wiring diagrams.
Bump for thoughts/tips from others.

Yes, they did offer it in 2000-01 and I did forget about it. At the same time, a unit from a 1998-2001 model would be less likely to fit because they no longer had a cable driven speedometer.
