Congrats iOS users. After 5 years you get an extra half inch of screen and....that's about it.

It's funny all of the apple haters which come out of the woodwork for these threads. I actually like the new Lumia better than the proposed iPhone 5 but prefer the iphone 4 versus any android phone I've used. Just something about the form factor and build quality of it and the fact it does everything I want it to. My work won't support android phones either, only iPhones...

Whatever people want to say Apple will sell millions and millions of them.

to me, that's everything. i compare it to all other androids/windows phone and they don't match what i like (most of them looks feel very cheap and 'plasticky')

****ing apple just got it right with the phone.

c/n: if another company made a bitching/clean/slick looking phone like the iphone, then i would be more open to other choices.

ps. like i've said, i've been mostly an all show-no good kind of buy even with all my cars i've ever own
If that is your main reason then I retract my disappoint. I owned the gen1 iphone because it was great looking but i'm more of a best bang for your buck kind of guy so I've bought HTC Evo's as my last 3 phones though the latest Nokia Lumia series will get me to turn if it ever comes out for sprint.

I got an Ipad. It works pretty good and it's my first Apple product. Seems to work pretty good, but I only go on the internet and take pics with it.

Is that just a dwg viewer? I can't imagine trying to use it for actual drawing modifications.

It's a shame that any sort of reasonable discussion about technology brands ends this way.
Nope, not saying that a free feature phone was better than the original iphone, that should have been obvious from the second paragraph. With that first sentence, I was pointing out that the failures of the original iphone are ignored because of the image and branding that has since been build around the iphone. It allows grandiose claims to be made and passed off as fact.

When it launched, it changed the market and was the best phone for a specific segment in the market; however, it was not the best phone available at that time. I don't remember the model, but Sony had a pretty bad ass smartphone out at the time, but it was widely ignored because it didn't have the big touchscreen.

Sorry, it just sounded like that's what you were saying. The original iphone was capable of MMS, but I believe it was AT&T that limited that functionality. They were afraid of their network crashing down. THey did the same thing later with tethering. The iphone was capable, but AT&T would not allow it on the network until they could figure out how to charge for it.

AT&T sucks (as do all of the carriers).

I remember, before the iphone that I wanted to get the Samsung BlackJack (of which RIM sued Samsung and settled out of court). It was a decent phone then.

You believe wrong. The iPhone didn't support MMS because Jobs thought it was outdated and wanted to push email instead.

The hardware was easily able to do it, I MMS'd all the time on my jailbroken OG iPhone.

I had heard many theories at the time and there was a lot of static about that feature not being available (along with copy/paste). I know is that the hardware was capable. The reason I suspect it was AT&T is because of how they dragged their feet with MMS on the the 3G and even the 3GS. If you think it was Jobs though, I have no information to the contrary.

Honestly, it could be either. I distinctly remember Jobs saying something to the tune of that when people were raging about it.

I would agree also that the iPhone is the sexiest looking phone out there. Although now I do love my S3. The feel of it is awesome. Try and handle one once if you haven't. It's takes away that plasticy/cheap look to me because it feels so solid.

The bad part about the iPhones though, is everyone covers up that sexy look with a ****ing Otter box! WHY?!?! It's like buying this:

and putting cattle catchers on the front back and sides to protect it.. It kills the look. No bueno.

I was about to say the same thing. Most people probably don't care what the phone looks like because they just slap a huge case on it anyway.

That's really true. I rarely see androids with cases. My sister in law should have had one though. She dropped her S2 at work and cracked the screen. Still works fine, but she's all bent out of shape about it.

I recently took my Apple bumper off and it does make a huge difference holding the phone the way it was meant to be held.

On top of that, yesterday I went to put on my seat belt with my phone in my pocket, the metal seat belt buckle hit my phone and made a really cool metal on metal clang. No more cases.

My OtterBox has saved my phone from being destroyed by a teething puppy, my phone has sat in water for a while (fell in the dog dish while I was cooking) and worked perfectly. My phone feels weird out of the case and that only happens if it's charging at a dock. Maybe it's overkill, but I've had anxiety dreams about accidentally destroying my phone for years before I even got a fancy phone.

I've got the otterbox defender for the S3 and an advantage is that the lip allows for better hearing when up to your ear, as it acts as a sound shield from ambient noises.

How do you guys not use cases and screen protectors? I shattered my last case out drinking. And I hate the greasy build up you get if you don't use a screen protector.

Anti-smug/glare screen protectors are the best.

I agree with needing a screen protector, but cases aren't as necessary as they used to be, assuming you are careful with your phones. I get a riduclous case because I always somehow damage my phones.
