Took a look at my co-workers week-old iPhone and it's already all scratched up along the edges and on the back. Sucks.

Some people are savage animals when it comes to keeping things nice. My wife's black 5 looks perfect still. Her coworker keeps her phone the same purse pocket as her keys and wonders why it looks like hell.

I'm meeting up with a guy to sell my wife's old 4, 16GB for $250.

I agree that it should be an opt in, or at least more transparent. Apple did release a document on how to opt out, and it's a bit easier than what is described in the article. You just have to visit this link - http://oo.apple.com/.

Really? After almost 20 whole days of ownership, it still looks perfect? Impressive.

yeap. I have a black 5 and I have no case and it still looks super nice. No scuffs, discolorations or nicks. Believe me, if it started to deteriorate just from sitting by itself in my pocket, I would be really upset.

did a little research.. Sadly, Sparrow's last update was at the end of August and nothing since for an iphone5/iOS6 update... I've since deleted Sparrow and went back to the gmail app. Battery life has somewhat returned back to normal.

Phone didn't run hot but wifi and sometimes cell data signal would drop off and become inconsistent even with 2+ bars of LTE. (Verizon). This is my first iphone. Coming from a droid bionic.

Mine has a couple nicks and the slightly cracked back glass already. I have no idea how. I've been super careful and it's kind of annoying. I'm going to have to get a case or a Nokia 920. The case I want isn't out yet (Magpul) and I haven't found any desirable alternatives.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe I scratched it plugging in headphones, but that seems unlikely. I don't think my phone has touched anything harder than aluminum other than headphones (what's the plug made out of?) and the charger.

Speaking of the 920, has there been an official release date yet? I may have to get a temporary phone if it's not in my 30 day window. Provided I can even get this thing exchanged. Maybe warranty or AppleCare, then return the replacement.

Well crap. I'm mildly regretting selling my 4 now. $250 an hour after listing it on CL was too tempting to pass up.

I guess I'm stuck with this thing. At least the resale is usually insanely good if I desperately want out.

Edit: I REALLY like the phone, just a bit worried about longevity which is one of the reasons I bought it in the first place. If it lasts 2 years, even if its ugly, I'd be totally happy.

Normally I would agree. But from the photo's, these don't look like normal scratches. But more like chips or flakes which I don't think should be happening weeks/months into use.

Yep, and the opt out should not be placed in General -> About, or at least, ALSO placed in the Privacy tab where it belongs. But really, they should've made it a setup option on first use/registration. And that goes for all companies (not just Apple).

Put me in the camp where I think a product should stand up on it's own; a case is good and all but if it's really necessary, then the product should come with a case.

Ummm yeah, I don't think that's easier and really upfront at all. Don't want to sound like I'm ranting specifically on Apple here, as this really pertains to any company that provides ad-tracking functionality. Make it a setup question and/or an opt in setting; that is, the user has to turn ad-tracking ON, instead of having to turn it off.

I'm pretty certain early November (rumoured pre-order on Oct 21st or 23rd?). The entire Win 8 release is happening late Oct, and Win 8 phone looks to be part of it.

yeah, that'll happen on black anodizing, or pretty much any coating. its not the anodizing per say, but the hard edge there. film build on those types of features is minimal at best. a radiused edge would make that go away.

Question about ordering a Verizon iPhone for my wife, as an upgrade:

If we go through the Apple website, it tells her she must select a new data plan (we know we'll lose our old unlimited plan, nothing to do about it ), but doesn't offer us the choice of any of the "Share Anything" plans. It only offers traditional "700 minutes" + a la carte data + a la carte txt messaging plans.

What's the deal with this? I thought the whole point was that VZW was switching ppl into their share everything plan, but it doesn't even appear to be an option when you order an iPhone from Apple.

Is going directly through Verizon the only way to get the new sharing plan?

Yeah, I believe you have to go through Verizon.

If you have another line other than your wife's that has an upgrade eligibility, she can keep her unlimited data through a small loophole. It's how I retained my unlimited
