Do you guys just not understand what you read? The article specifically says google maps provides excellent real time traffic and apples new maps is lack luster in that area. It then went on to say that apple has accident and road work notifications, (which apparently GM doesn't have?) but it it gives no indication of how it affects traffic which makes those notifications kind of useless.

I used the new maps navigation feature side by side with my Android today on the way to work. The route making needs a little work. The path the iPhone was taking me on would have gotten me there, but it definitely wasn't the quickest or shortest way to get there.

i think the bolded part is what they were saying, the article says it doesn't have this but it does.

Exactly

http://www.theunwired.net/?item=sear...it-is-searched

It tells you delays in maps and even out of maps before you even leave. It knows when you leave for work or home everyday and notifies you before you leave. If you have a appointment in your calendar with a address it tells you when you need to leave by and traffic conditions.

I go to my parents house every weekend usually on sunday, I even get a notification on sundays telling me how long of a drive to my parents.

I will never understand what people are doing on their phones to need unlimited data. Not having unlimited data never meant that much to me because I feel like I am on my phone constantly and barely hit 1GB/month. Are there data heavy apps that I am just not using?

Pandora. Cloud drive music. Tethering.

I'm going to be very sad when I lose my unlimited data.

I stream music 8-10 hours per day using Slacker. That's what pretty much chews up my data, but I need music to keep me sane at work so it's worth it too me.

I never come near my 2GB/month limit, and I'm constantly on my phone.

Although I'm on WiFi a lot and that doesn't count towards your cap.

On iOS? I haven't used GM on an iPhone in quite some time due to the lack turn by turn directions, but when I did, I don't recall getting any alerts about accidents or roadwork up ahead. If it does, then I apologize for going full potato.

Are you talking about Google Maps on iOS? If so, I don't think it ever had delay or incident reporting. The iOS version of GM is well behind the Android version at this point.

How do you get it to notify you before leaving for work and when leaving for home? I cannot seem to find this in the settings?

not to defend apple, but it seems that its not GMaps, but GNow the one that provides all those extra features.

If true, article is correct. GMaps lacks. But GNow delivers all of that. (which might not be available on IOS due to Apple kicking Google out?)

Exactly. Google wouldn't update GM for iOS (can't really blame them) hence the reason for abandoning GM in iOS 6

i thought it was because Apple was giving Google all of their iP users location info, which allowed Google to present location specific ads, that they were making money off of.

by having their own maps app, they can cut Google out of the picture and keep the ad revenue for themselves.

Apple and Google, especially with their purchase of Motorola Mobile, are intense competitors. Same thing with them dropping the YouTube app. Trying to take revenue/market share from Google. Can't blame em. Sucks that it's a bad move for the consumer tho.

Liking iOS 6 on my 4 a lot so far. Full music integration via Bluetooth streaming on my Prius (browse by artist, album, song, genius) from the touchscreen without physically connecting the phone. Also allows me to see the upcoming songs and skip directly as many songs ahead as I want.

Maps turn by turn is easier to use while driving thanks to swiping to the next turn instead of the next/prev buttons that GM used on iOS. Haven't run into any problems other than the limited Yelp POI database. My impression is that GM for iOS was hamstrung versus the android versions. I imagine that the butting heads between google and apple was the cause for that.

Adding pictures to an email is way easier now.

No noticeable bugs or slowness other than the first boot up had music and photos apps crash the first time (suspect this had to do with indexing the library for the first run). No problems since then.

Still finding a lot of new things, though. Apps haven't had any issue without updates.

I am reading that iOS6 will not be released for the original iPad?!? wtf.

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/06...original-ipad/

Thats some bull**** Apple, plain and simple and just a ploy to sell more newer iPads. You are telling me you can throw iOS6 on an 4 year old iPhone, but not on a 2 year old tablet?

Also, here is a comparison in the details in the maps:

Called AT&T. If you haven't gotten confirmation now, you wont be getting it for a few weeks. "The web site messed up" was the response I got.

I might try my luck at a store, and he said call and cancel once I get my hands on one.
