good luck cancelling. also, you cant pick one up in the store if you have an order out there since your upgrade is already locked in

There is alot of anger out there, I have been reading some comments on reddit and there are some valid points being made:

http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/c...ing_users_and/

edit: Also confirmed you cant download the original Google Maps either. It will likely have to get approved (even though it came stock on every OS besides this update) and it will likely be delayed.

Wow ... having never owned an iPhone, but having used Google Maps regularly, that is just pitiful. I'm all for simplicity, but ...

I'm good for picking a little bit of fun sometimes, just because I don't like Apple, but this is pretty bad; I can't understand how any company, even Apple, would release something this awful

Apple and Google, especially with their purchase of Motorola Mobile, are intense competitors. Same thing with them dropping the YouTube app. Trying to take revenue/market share from Google. Can't blame em. Sucks that it's a bad move for the consumer tho.
There is only speculation about why the Maps contract wasn't renewed. I haven't seen a verified reason yet. As an iOS user, I can only hope that they bring something new to the platform, but their incentives are not great.

The YouTube app was actually pretty nice on iOS. It was completely ad free. It was always a shock when I went to the website and there were ads before almost every video. Never saw any of that on the app.

Cool your jets. No one is calling it an upgrade and if they are they are blind. This is v1.0 software replace v5.0 software, plain and simple. It has a long way to go just to get back to where it was. The turn-by-turn is nice to have, but honestly, we all knew it should have been in there long ago. Ideally, Apple should have been working on their own maps a long time ago rather than relying on a direct competitor for so long.

Yeah, that is some BS. Someone explain to me why the 3GS gets it but not the original iPad.

Other then the routing issues i experienced, its a nice interface. I would almost say the navigation interface in the Apple Maps is better then Androids offering. it was easier to read where I was supposed to turn, and also upcoming streets had a raised tag which made it easier to identify the street name.

Well, if the maps are as bad as they appear to be, I'd have to imagine turn by turn directions to places that don't exist or are showing in a river are not so great either....

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Unless you have an iphone, iOS 6 seems largely unimportant anyway. Of Apple's touted '200+ new features', the most significant ones (imo) are all iphone-related (navigation, passbook, better phone app). I upgraded my wife's 4th gen ipod touch last night. It was a complete non-event.

I kind of feel bad now too. My brother in law, biggest Apple fan ever ordered the iPhone 5. I kind of don't want to talk to him about it, he's so happy with the purchase.

So it appears that the maps app is a disaster. I wonder if Steve were still alive/involved if Apple maps would have gotten the green light.

Are you kidding? Jobs hated Google and wanted to bury them. He was doing every thing he could to get away from Google Maps.
