Default Next part of my project done

So my car is an ongoing project, as I am sure most people's cars are. But today I was able to get one more piece of the puzzle done. I dropped my car off at Quality Muffler in Wasilla. Where Mike installed a Magna Flow muffler, and removed the resonator. It sounds AWESOME, has a killer growl to it, and is nice and deep. I will take a video and post it, I doubt it will do it justice. Next is the cams, which I am excited about doing it.

Well I'm sorry that you feel that way, but I thought this was a forum where we could talk about our cars. Plus under general discussion we could talk about most anything.

I like the steps you are taking with your car...

Step 1-gutt stock exhaust and put on muffler
Step 2-put in cams

Actuality I have done more then that, but I get the joke. So far I have deleted both cats, the egr system, one o2 sensor, a custom tune, and now the muffler. After the cams I plan on doing the suspension upgrades. I know I should have started there, but I really wanted to start with the engine first.

2.5I's have an egr system?

And what did completely removing an o2 sensor do?

As far as this is a forum to talk about cars, it is absolutely. However we do not need a new thread with an update everytime something is done. If you want to show your car off, start a build thread in the MEMBERS GALLERY and update it accordingly.

Cams are a waste without head work. And you will have to upgrade springs, keeper and such. Its not a 350 chevy.

Eliminating the o2 was a bad idea. It messes with the ecu. I think it was long term fuel trim and also egr / more lika a air pump might have the baro sensor in it. All bad for living in alaska. You might mod a block heater 1st.

But congrates on really modding that bad boy correctly. I see years of confusion in your future.

Lets hear that flowmaster. Must have bought it from the same performance store that told you to do cams next.

Okay let me start by saying I'm sorry, for not making a build thread. I will do that, again sorry.

Yes the n/a engines do have Exhaust gas return systems, also I am aware of the argument of you should or should not remove them. But I decided to remove it. The second o2 sensor is useless once you remove the cats. All it does is compare the readings before and after. When you remove the cats and kill the useless sensor, and upgrade the main o2 sensor, it then can handle doing all the work. No one has told me how to mod my car, this has all been of my own choice. I have gotten suggestion from local shops, and from reading THIS site. I am not confused and/or lost.

I have to say I am receiving more hate then I expected too. I have been really excited with the way things have been going. But I have to say, you guys succeed in ruining that for me.

Read up more on your car before you touch anything else. I'm just saying. You headed down a bad path. And don't forget to take care of that ticket!

Honestly man, just stop while you are ahead. Drop the idea of cams and forget about it.

People have been there and done that with the 2.5 NA motor. You are FAR and away better off doing a WRX motor swap. It will cost WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY less.

Even WITH headwork, your gains are going to be minimal for the money spent.
Seriously, you can do high compression pistons, balance and blueprint the motor, full on professional porting on the heads, cams, HOURS AND HOURS on a dyno, and you might, if you are extremely lucky, see 200whp. And you will be $8-10k deep in the motor. This isn't a guess. People have done it, read through the NA section on NASIOC.

A WRX motor will do that with an up pipe and a tune. Go find a used WRX long block and ECU, if you shop around you can do it for 3k or less, and its pretty close to a drop in setup.

Read what I said and seriously let it sink in. I know it isn't what you want to hear, but its the stone cold truth. LOADS (I mean seriously hundreds on this forum, including more than one shop looking to build an NA race car) have gone down the path you are headed, you are not going to discover some secret they didn't.

There was the "project zero to hero" car, they ended up at 204whp IIRC and they said in the end that it was a big waste of money and you will get more result for less cost, doing a wrx motor swap.

That is an idea that I have been tossing around. But I'm not doing this for huge performance gains. More to make the car a little more snapper. When all is said and done, I want to get in to the local auto cross group. This is all for fun, and because I enjoy tinkering. I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I want to build a hp monster. But that really is not the case.

That is just it, it isn't going to BE any snappier. Beyond a full exh (header to tip) and an intake and a tune, you will see next to nothing, without spending thousands. Even at that point, you won't get much.

Cams will get you MAYBE 7whp at REDLINE with next to nothing anywhere below about 1000rpm below redline. And there is a good chance they might cost you power down lower. They may not, but they aren't going to show gains down low, not enough that you could ever feel. No human being is ACTUALLY capable of feeling changes of less than ~10hp. So anything you feel, is going to be all in your head.
That completely changes when you are talking about a turbo motor, but yours is NA. Even with head work, there is only so much air your motor can use. So to get anything worthwhile out of them, you need higher compression pistons. In fact you are better off spending the money on higher compression pistons than cams, because a bump in compression will result in TQ gains you will be able to feel.

Talk to the local autocrossers. Your going to get the straight truth that dave and everyone else is saying.

Tires, suspension and brakes. Leave everything else alone.

Thank you Dave, I guess I was a little confused on what the net gains of the cams would be. I had been thinking about skipping the cams, and starting on the suspension. But as most people the idea of more power was pulling me in. I do want to start in the auto cross next summer. So I think I may take that money and use on the side that keeps me on the road.

I am sorry if I was getting defensive, but really I will listen. I also understand that there is a ton N/A threads out there about wanting big numbers.

Yup. I can't count how many times I read a build thread, it spans months sometimes years, 5,6,7k into the motor and TONS of blood/sweat/tears, only to have it make 175-180whp.
