17 when I got my first WRX, it was a brand new 07.
21 when I traded it for my current 2012 WRX back in December 2011.

I was 19 when I bought my first WRX. 2005. Bone stock, and over the years I built it up. Now, as of 2 weeks ago. I bought a new BRZ, at age 21.

I was 19 in my 3rd year of college when I got my 2012 WRX. Paid half with cash and the rest is being paid off by me working full time.

I was 22 when I bought my first WRX (2008 WRX Premium purchased in July 2010 for $19,000).

The car payments aren't an issue, but I have spent a lot on modifications. If I didn't have work connections that allow me to get parts cheaper, I would not be nearly as far as I am right now.

My parents (particularly my dad - I am his only daughter and yes I will admit to being slightly spoiled) have actually helped a lot too; IE: my dad insisting on buying me camshafts and valve train components for christmas.

I was 28.

Didn't spend anything more than $8k on a car until I was out of college and I bought a 350z for $16k when I got a job.

Don't spend a ton of money on a car when you are in college or you don't have a good paying job. Its not a good idea and there is a lot of greatness to be had at less than $10k. If you want a car with a turbo there are a lot of choices at that price range.

If you want a japanese turbocharged car either 300zx, 280zx, 3000GT, DSM, SRT4, Galant VR4, Celica AllTrac, Starquest, MR2, etc. all could be had for under $10k. I typically see subarus unless they are really bad or have high miles being $15k or more and that is for like a 2003 bugeye wrx. At least around here that is how much they go for. Meanwhile $8k 300ZX twin turbo are a dime a dozen.

If you want to live a lifetime of debt buy something expensive like my friend did who went to college. He has probably no credit rating now if it is possible to have a 0 he has it.

The fact you already have student loans is enough to warrent that arguement. I did not, I worked 40 hours a week and paid for college and went to junior college first then transferred to university to avoid that. Since you already have debt, yes the loan IS debt, I would avoid more at all costs.

1 test drive and i was set.
I bought the car without even test driving it, lol. I knew what the car was and what it was capable of so I thought a test drive was fairly pointless. My friends kept calling me insane for just ordering one over email and not even going to the dealership. Never even sat in a subaru before.

Just reminded me of my mom's 93 talon tsi. Simple AWD system, manual trans, turbo, no frills simplistic interior (bought a base model), and on this wrx an underrated 260hp. Learned to drive starting in 1998 on a car exactly like that.

20 when I bought my 02 wrx for 17k, 33k miles.
22 when I traded it in for a 2000 S4. 17.5k with 70k miles.

24 when I traded the s4 for a mini cooper s. 19k with 24k miles.

24 when I realized I was driving a MINI and traded it for an 07 wrx brand new.

26 when I traded that in with 86k miles for a new 2011.

27 now and still have it. Guess I go through cars pretty quick. I like projects. On to an older evo hopefully, if I can find a good cheap one to drop a motor into.

Got my bugeye when I was 20. No student loans. No debt. Two jobs. Wrote a check for it.

Everyone is different. If I were you, it would depend on the amount of debt (student loans etc) I owed and what the interest rates where like. If the interest rates are low enough and I had a good source of income, I would consider buying a car instead of paying off the loans.

I was 20, just starting my junior year in college when I bought my first wrx. I regretted it like crazy for a while because I did spend too much and the dumbest part was I financed it for 72 months. I didn't have trouble making the payments because I also worked basically full time while in school but I knew deep down I payed more than I should have considering I was still in school and living with my parents.

That being said it is now 3 years later, I'm now graduated, married and have a decent paying full time job. I paid the car off 3 years early and I just traded it in for an 08 STi. I had a blast with my wrx while I had it and while it probably wasn't the most financially responsible thing for me to do I think it ended up being worth it in the end. So ya it would be smarter and more responsible to put the money away towards retirement/tuition/anything else, but you only live once so if it's what you really want, yes it can be done just plan on working for it.

Dropped out of college, bought the car at 24 with my first real job. Paid it off in three years. The only reason I bought it was I needed a reliable car to drive back and forth to work, 8 hours each way. I also needed the awd, weather doesn't matter with work, I have to be there, no excuses.

I'm 17 and bought my Impreza 2 months ago. unfortunately in Australia you can't drive turbo or high performance vehicles like wrx or sti until you reach a certain driving licence level, soo it's just an impreza but as soon as I can legally have a wrx/sti I will
