For example:

Me- (pumping gas)
Idiot- hey man sweet WRX, what year is it?
Me- thanks man, its a 2011.
Idiot- cool my buddy has an 2012.
Me- OK.
Idiot-you done anything to it man?
Me- just a basic stage 2.
Idiot- well my buddies 2012 is an STi and its stage 3.
Me- OK.
Idiot- whats your 0-60 man?
Me- I dont know factory is 4.5 +/- and this is stage 2, plus I dont track my car so prob 4.2 +/-
Idiot- yeah well my buddies STi runs 2.0sec 0-60. Its so insane. It goes over 200 MPH!!
Me- yeah thats unbelievable.
Me- (done pumping gas)
Idiot- yeah well sweet ride bro (goes back to passenger seat in friends truck at next pump over.)
Me- bye. bye.

I cant be alone out there, what are you guys experiences?
Hahaha

It doesn't seem to happen with me :/. A guy in a wheel chair saw my car and asked me what year Impreza it was. He told me his bro has an 06 and the told me "Hold it down brudda and take care". Also a bus driver leaned out his window and said "Don't you just love this car? I just picked up my STi!"

Thats the only two encounters :/.

I've gotten a couple compliments from guys in lowered RSXs, and one of them actually asked me "so how many tickets have you got bro?" I replied "just one, couple weeks after I got it. I learned the hard way I guess" to which he said "yeah I got too many, that's why my boy is driving my car instead of me" I say "oh? What's the whp of your car?" to which he said "oh I just have a catback, no tune or anything. But it beat pretty much every car I raced" I just said "...yeah I have almost 300 whp but I don't race anybody *laughs semi-nervously*" he says "oh, well sweet car anyways bro. You should get a hood scoop back on it though, I thought it was just an Impreza" Really?? With a big FMIC and he thinks it wasn't turboed? Oh, I forgot to mention how his "bro" had a modified POS (can't remember what it was) with a "big front mount, cause he has so much power"

Every time i get gas at a certain Shell, the worker stops what he's doing and starts to talk to me about my car, i think its hilarious! Customers start to get mad sometimes.

One time i got approached by a guy in a Saleen, he pulled up and i was admiring his car. He filled up, i was done but washing my windows, and as he pulls away he yells

him-i hate all these f'ing subarus
me- why?
him- I spent close to 6 figures on this, and i bought my son an impreza back in 04 when he graduated high school, and he's dropped only 20k in that thing and its faster than my Saleen
me- time for some mods!
him- he looks at me kind of dumb and puts his car in gear "it already is modded" and drives off

I sure hope it's faster with 20k worth of performance mods.

Its been 5 months and I already have 10K miles on it. I get no comments from anyone
Maybe that's because I have a base WRX with no 'Stupid Ugly Wing'

Not at the pump, but at a stoplight just 10 mins ago >

I pull up next to a guy in a cherry 67 Ford Fairlane Ranchero at a stoplight and yells out the window, "that's a cool car dude, that thing is awesome!"

I drive a totally stock 09 STi & had been behind him for about 1/4 of a mile just cruising at 40mph admiring the rare classic and preparing to compliment him if I got the chance.

I yell back at him, "That Ford is beautiful, gotta love the classics!"

Mutual respect, that's what I love about car people! Two completely different cars & he complimented my ride before I could compliment his. We wished each other a great day & headed our separate ways.

I usually write off the bad experiences as uneducated-egotistical. I do appreciate those that are genuine though and rather enjoy "selling" the Subaru brand as I'm just another satisfied customer

Lots of cool stories here so I guess I'll chime in as well. The last time I was approached while pumping gas, it was two in the morning and I was robbed all the way down to my birthday suit.

I was approached at a gas station by a guy in a newer civic (08 ish) wearing a suit. I'm pumping my gas minding my own and he smugly says "I remember driving around mommie and daddy's car and only having to pay for gas" so I lean over and study the guy real quick and notice his harkins theatre manager name tag and reply back casually "my deployment to Afghanistan paid for this car" he stumbled over a few words and only managed to get out sorry before I got in the car lol. The ignorance of people in general amazes me

I get all compliments from my car, so I don't really mind. The most common one is "is it fast?" to which I just reply "it's alright", so I don't sound cocky or anything.

People usually get a kick out of the plate too:

I work at a gas station; Tust me, I know LOL. Usually though, it the opposite. A guy comes in, and I ask if he's driving the _____ (usually a wrx/sti) and ask them a few question. Favorite one was

Me: Is that your WRX out there?
Dude: Yeah man. Is that your sti?
Me: Yessirree (he begins smiling)
Dude: Bro, I smoke sti's all the time. When I ask what's done to it, he says stage 2.
Me: Well my car is full bolt-ons with an E85 tune, 335/375 on a 'stang dyno, so I seriously doubt you would. Pump gas?
Dude: Yeah (smirk is completly gone now)
Me: ........... Alright man, have a good one. Clean car BTW.

Only time i've really been approached while filling up was by a guy driving a modded Rx-7, he came over as said, "nice subie!, i've always wanted a subie"

I also complimented him back on his clean rx-7 and we chatted about cars for a little bit before both heading out.

Other then that i'm usually in my own world while filling up. lol

Although I did get approached by a guy in pick a part one time, picking up parts for my brothers old car. This guy was driving a ford probe, lowered, exhaust and wing risers. I'm crouched down pulling the rear calipers off this car and he starts asking me what I drive. So I tell him, "i have an 03 Subaru Wrx" So then he asks me how much power I was making. "um Probably around 230ish", (car only had aftermarket DP and had no tune at the time as i had just got it) Straight away he says "Oh i'd smoke you! my cars making 250!" I just smiled, finished up what I was doing and left.

I could tell he was one of those guys who if I had said I was making 440whp he would have been making 460whp.

I couldn't help but laugh as he drove away.

Just because he's on pump gas doesn't mean he couldn't make more power than you if he were on a larger turbo...

I approached somebody a few years ago at a gas station. He was driving a jeep. I walked over to him and reminded him he was pumping diesel into his gasoline vehicle. I had to run, but he was in horror when he realized this.
