I only had one encounter since I got my car in march. I was putting mail in the mail box and a guy taking his morning walk stopped to talk
guy "nice car"
me "thanks"
guy "I saw a bunch of those rally cars at the speedway last week, they looked pretty sharp"
me "yea I wanted to go watch them run but I didn't want to deal with all the nascar fans out there".
guy "I didn't watch them run, I left after the nascar race was over."

^ This same happened to me

On my way to the beach on my day off looking like a bum. I'm using my shell card at the gas station. A +25 year old dude in a 90's mustang gives me a dirty look and says

Dude: nice car
Me: thanks bud
Dude: did you get it for a graduation present or something? (I don't look my age)
Me: nope
Dude: oh did you're parents just by it for you then?
Me: nope
Dude: I see you're using their gas card, must be nice to not have to work for expensive stuff
Me: I ignore the comment then reached in the passenger seat to grab a bottle of water, pop open the trunk to fill the intercooler water tank. I notice the guy eyeing my dirty flack and Kevlar I had in the back from training earlier that week.
Me: I bought it after my second deployment deployment to afghan
Dude: oh I'm thinking about joining
Me: that's nice
Dude: said sorry, and I told him not to worry about it as I drove off

I almost approached some old dude this morning but I was running a little late and he was inside still.. some 1998 ish chevy 1500 shortbed SS with champagne paint, and a single wide black racing stripe... and two small accent stripes on the doors and fenders that flowed down into a 427 emblem right behind the headlight. I was curious because the truck was clean and had gauges... but it had a stick on hoodscoop and stock 16" rims with tiny factory michellins on it. It just had me curious.

My wifes jeep wrangled on 35's always get people talking to me though. People act like they have never seen tires that big. That's like stand size for a lifted jeep

I'll post this here since it wasn't necessarily funny or relevant in the funny Subaru stories thread:

I get the standard compliments on my Subaru, but surprisingly I get far more when I'm driving my 85' Cressida.

Had a couple older guys get into some pretty cool convos about older luxury cars and stuff. People are also generally amazed at how well it runs. The engine sounds great with no odd noises etc. I do need to get the rusty muffler replaced however.

I just get a lot of "Nice car" comments. No conversation. Never had any smack talk.

I had a guy at an ice cream spot come up to me once in a big diesel work truck with 10 lawn mowers in it. He asked me if I wanted to race and I said no thanks. He went on to tell me about his 9 second 1100 hp buick regal :|

Had a nice, black lifted truck pull into a parking lot as I was leaving, he was eyeing my car and smiling. Pulls a u-turn and rolls up next to me in the turning lane, gives me a big thumbs up. His truck actually looked pretty sweet too. Aggressive but more "desert race truck" style than "redneck mud truck". Some people just respect an aggressive and capable vehicle, no matter the type.

Also walked out to my car once to find 3 bros sitting in a camry, parked 2 spaces away; they all whipped their heads around as I went to get into my car. One of them opens his door and goes "dude! you have a SICK car... just so you know" I started to laugh, and could barely get out a "thanks man"

I probably should have told them a little bit about what I've done to it already for drivetrain & handling (sways, mounts, bushings, inserts, shifter kit, etc) and what I plan to do next for power (intake, uppipe, downpipe, catback, EBCS, etc). But I think it all would have only lead to either dumbfounded silence or further bro praise.
