Default will a ej253 drop in a wrx?

Here's my question, I have a 02 impreza outback sport 5spd. I am getting a 03 wrx wagon auto, minus the motor but with engine harness intact. I'm gonna be sourcing and building a hybrid wrx/sti swap but since I have a complete n.a. drivetrain could I swap the whole motor,5spd trans, pedals into the wrx for the meantIme and will the wiring be good? Or as another option can I keep the auto trans and just drop in the motor for now.?

You could put the motor in but thats it. The wiring is different and so is the computer. Sell the impreza and buy a motor, done.

Is the wiring that such different? I have the ecu for the n.a. motor so that wouldn't be a big deal.

Can't find takers for the outback though hah so figured I'd sacrifice it for parts instead. Didn't think 2500 was too much to ask.

I just sold my 97 obs on saturday for 2500. I would think an 02 should sell for 2500 easy.

No the EJ205 ECU wont run the EJ253 engine as a simple answer. Second if you want a 2.5 Impreza hatch as the end result I would source a 2.5i (06-09) ECU and harness and install that into the WRX shell. There really isnt a efficient way to the end result

Nonono what I'm saying Is that I have the ej253 ecu to drop in the car with the motor I just want to know if the ej205 engine bay harness is similar enough to run the ej253 till I finish the hybrid build. And mod maniac I wish my car would sell but I can't get any buyers just broke tire kickers.

if you could just drop an ej253 engine into a wrx wouldnt you think itd be the same for when
people do a wrx and sti swap to other subarus? people spend hours and days merging harnesses to get the engine to work. if only it were as simple as plug and play
and wow man you would think that your outback would sell for that price, how many miles are on it?

Then try to trade it for an engine, you might get lucky. Post it in the wanted section.

Noooo the 253 ecu would run the 253 till I finished a 205 build then the 205 would go in with the matching ecu. I'm saying can I put the whole 253 motor ecu and what not into my wrx till I finish the build. I need a car for work.

Drive the obs, save your money and buy a engine. You would have to hack the wiring and then put it all back. Not worth the work.

You could opensource tune the wrx ecu into running the EJ253. Someone on here or on rs25.com did a 2.5i swap into his late 90's impreza using stock wire harness and a wrx ecu for EM. Just read his thread, but can't for the life of me remember his S/N

EDIT: found thread, lol, how do you forget a screen name like carbotron.... Here you go.

OHHHHHHHHHHHH yes you can put the Ej253 drivetrain in the WRX shell just use the right engine mounts and gearbox mounts and make sure the rear diff is the same ratio as the gearbox.

What about the wiring? The wrx shell has full engine harness intact but I also have my full outback engine harness and ecu.

Are there plugs that separate the engine harness from the main harness before it goes through the firewall? Coming from Honda's they had a engine harness that came together into a thick bundle with two or so big 20 pin plugs. And from the other side of those l plugs it went into the firewall and went to the ecu and dash etc. Are Subaru like this or do you have to unhook the sensors and pull the harness through the grommets in the dash?

What advantage do you get from swapping the 253 into the wrx? Now you are driving a different shell with the same internals. What a freakin waste of time. Just drive the obs until you save up enough money or sell it.

Limited space Is why. Stupid town laws prohibit unreg cars in your driveway even under a cover. It's dumb.
