This looks like a similar thing. Maybe it's something with a fuse? Still hunting...

ETA - here's another one, http://www.rs25.com/forums/f190/t175...ing-light.html

ETA2 - http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...97/index2.html

From everything I can find, it's the hot CAT warning/CAT temp warning light.

hmmm.... i did get a CAT code several times in the past year...

after reading that first thread here is some abnormal behavior from my rs:

-all gauges pegged at zero, lights still worked fine (2 weeks ago)
-a/c compressor would turn on and off at random (2 days)
-lights would get brighter when braking (2 days)
-engine sputtered and bogged with too much gas
-finally engine died and wont start
-after sitting for a day, engine started, but only lasted 10 seconds and now wont start or even turn over

Unfortunately in this case, Googling is the extent of my knowledge about this. Hopefully some of the technically adept folks can chime in and help.

Check your grounds. Those symptoms sound like one's I've had in the past when my battery is going bad or when the connections to the battery or chassis have corroded or are loose.

Ahhh yes. Now that Ken mentions it, I had similar problems when the ground on the top of the manifold came loose after the bolt fell off. So like Ken said, search that thing top to bottom for lose wires or bad grounds.

after talking with Barry, who says he has never seen that light before!, i will first clean every ground and replace my battery cables, they have quite a bit of corrosion on them... and with a little luck this thing should be running again

I'm not 100% sure,

Just a thought, marinate away on that.
