Default COBB SF Intake REALLY loud

I heard one of these on another car during a meet, and it sounded real nice. Now that I have mine installed it sound very loud in my car. I don't have a problem with the sound, but it was surprisingly loud, and I don't want to piss off my neighbors any more than they already are.

I may take a video and post it up, I am hoping I actually did the install correctly. The instructions sucked, does anyone have a walkthrough or better instructions so I can be sure that i got this installed all right?

Just make sure you slide all the connections firmly in place and tighten them clamps down real good. The intake will be loud, but only when you are getting on the throttle (which you shouldn't be doing around residential areas anyway). Are you tuned for the intake?

+1 on being tuned for the intake

did you get the air box with your intake? and yes it is a well known fact that the SF intake is loud if you search around. but only when you get on it...

on a side note i feel as it gets quieter when you put some miles on it and it is no longer loud to me

Just don't get on it. Super easy. It's not that loud unless you want it to be. I think you're suffering from the initial shock factor.

I have the COBB SF Intake and yes it is loud but only when you're hard on the gas. It shouldn't be noticeable loud if you're driving at low speeds/low rpms.

I have the SF intake with box and SPT CBE. Nice trebble to my deep bass rumble. =)

Although the 130+ F temp at idling concerns me.

Should be fine, although a custom tune will always be better

you should check to see if Cobb has another map for your intake...

I think you are getting some heat into the box, mine is just over 112 F at idle, 110 city and 108 highway driving, check your setup, maybe there is something hot touching the box.

On colder days in the 60s and 70s F, it idles around 110-115. I'm not sure what could be touching the box as there's only one way to install the thing.

While we're on the CAI discussion. I know everyone says, you must get a tune a if you install any CAI. My question is if the CAI alone voids your warranty or does the aftermarket tune void your warranty? Also, what happens if I install a CAI and don't tune?

Just dont floor it in you eneighborhood and your fine....and to the post above, nothing "voids" your warranty..they just deny coverage. If you run an intake with no tune your car with run like ****.

Subaru cant void your warranty first of all, thats a fact. They can deny your claim that is directly cause by a modification you did. They can and they will.

I have the cobb intake on my 08 and I love it. yes its loud, but it only makes the it Extremely audible when your really on the gas.

tune for it. please.

It looks like heat is a big issue with these.. doesn't it utilize the air ram that the stock box uses? I want to free up the intake but i don't want scalding hot intake temps.. my AP says my intake temps are about 10-20* above ambient temp with the stock box

Heat is a big issue with mine but I have the OBX knockoff version and no box. At a stop light I see an easy 50+ delta in IAT. Stock is obviously the cheapest and most effective option, but I need to have all the turbo noises and BPV noises! I think I'm just going to get a cheap CAI when I get a new turbo and TMIC and dyno tune.

bumping this up for a curious question.

i bought the cobb sf intake with the intake box and i like the swoosh sound but not the part when air is being rushed into the intake...

my friend bought the same thing without the intake box and you can barely hear anything before the bov sound (whoosh sound).

is it possible that the box amplifies the noise?

I think I'm missing the part as to why it is so difficult to install an intake? God damn, just when I started to think people couldn't get any dumber

You're describing the 'swoosh' sound... Any aftermarket intake is going to be more audible than stock, but the box itself will have minimal [if any] effect on how loud it is. My SF with the box is certainly loud(er), but by no means unbearable or intrusive to my neighbors.

To those guys that buy intakes solely for the sound - I really hope you're tuned

To actually answer your question, just take the box off and run it and see if you notice a difference on your car.

I'm use to mine now. Adding the re-routed EWG helped, too....
