Default 2015 WRX Longblock.

2015 CVT WRX. 50,000 MILES.

I'm gonna shorten this as much as possible. My engine spun bearings and bent a rod last oct. Dealer rebuilt shortblock under warranty. 1 week after I pick it up CEL came on, was told Cam gear issue. Replaced cams and oil valves, repeat this issue 5 times. Last month they replaced cam shaft, cam gears, oil valves, ecm basically everything all over. Light came back on next day. I opened a case with Subaru in July. Got the run around , was told to wait and see. Finally got escalated and now am being told they are replacing the short block again. I've asking for a new long block because the techs at the dealership said I need one but management won't approve it. The person at SOA checked and said they don't make 2015 wrx longblocks any more and that a new shortblock is all I can get. Anyone familiar or know if that's true? Am I SOL. All this is under warranty btw and I haven't had my car for over a week since last oct! Help!

Can't do lemon law. It's past the time frame. Anyone here know if the part about not making new longblocks true?

Yeah, Subaru doesn't do long blocks, unless the car is almost new- in other words, a 2019 with a bad engine is eligible for a long block because they can just pluck one off the assembly line. And even then, it's rare.

Has your dealer replaced the ECM? Cam advance codes are hard to fully explain in terms of Subaru. Basically, the learned value for a cam sprocket acts kind of like a fuel trim- it sets the base value and the sprocket fine tunes from there. Unlike fuel trims, these cam values cannot be reset- they are burned into the ECM. So, any time sprockets are replaced due to a DTC, so should the ECM, or else the same code will come back.

I'm purely speculating since I don't know which code(s) are setting, but I've seen guys get burned by this before.

Thanks for the response. Yeah I know about the ecm having codes burnt in and I mentioned them that everytime they do the cams they have to replace the ecm if the code is burnt in. They didn't listen and basically thought since I'm not a tech I don't know ****. Proceeded to replace cams over and over, finally did ecm and didn't do the cam and well it was a never ending cycle. I got pissed called SOA and now they're replacing the shortblock all over again with a new shortblock.

Sell the car, get a 2019/2020 WRX if you really want a WRX. Or buy a beater for 2k and wait for the 2021 STi.

Yup that's the plan. Selling it once it's fixed and gonna get the next one. Just wanted to confirm I wasn't being lied to about the longblock. Thanks!

I know you're past the "Lemon Law" time frame but i'd reach out to SOA anyway. Something is obviously off if a brand new motor is giving you a ton of new problems.

I have a case open with them already. They're replacing the shortblock with a new shortblock. They won't take the car back since it's past the lemon law period. I wanted a new longblock but they don't make that anymore for the 2015 so that's out the picture. Once this is fixed I'll keep it for maybe a year and get the 2021 sti since the warranty on the new engine will be a year. The dealer I bought it from also has a lifetime warranty on it so I'm covered either way.

Yeah If you bought it with factory warranty they're covered up to 60k or 5 years whichever comes first. Bumper to bumper is upto 36k or 3 years I believe.

Ooof, getting close to that 5 years for me! Unless they take into account that the original owner most likely bought it in 2014?

I believe it's original owner so yours is probably up, did your dealer give a separate warranty? I don't think factory warranties are transferable if the owner sells. I'm not a 100% on that though.

I bought the car last year and it's a 2015, I have some sort of "MaxCare" for my car but factory warranty is probably better.

I thought it transferred over due to all the posts i've seen of people buying used WRX/STi's and have them gotten warranty work for ringland/bearing failure.

Just checked yeah looks like warranty transfers to new owners but only upto 60k or 5 years. After that you're out of warranty unless it's a factory recall or an actual issue that Subaru is claiming is from factory. So if you have a 2015 wrx which was most likely originally bought in 2014 then you're probably out fo warranty by now or soon will be once it hits 5 years. The dealer can check the VIN and see when it was first sold.

This is only for factory warranty, if you have extended warranty through the dealer then that's different. Each dealer has different warranties so you'll have to check with them.
