Yeah, I guess Im just paranoid. After reading the denial posts, it seems like everyone has some sort of ecu tune. All I want is the freedom to run a different catback system than the SPT. I really want the magnaflow for some more volume.

I've never heard of anyone having a problem with just a catback exhaust. And if they did I can't explain why. That's a very common add on that doesn't really create any more power. Subaru knows this and that's why they sell the SPT. If that's all you want to do, you'll be fine. Just don't show up at the dealer with 4 bald tires and a blown clutch at 3000 miles. That's obviously abuse and they will nail you for that.

Anyone here have a warranty claim denied due to a catback exhaust?

I have never heard of one and never seen one denied because of one. Catbacks do very little anyways.

Blahhhh although I really really really want the magnaflow exhaust, Im going to buy the SPT ANDDD pay the dealer to install it just for the CYA security. Bring on the $1200 noise maker.

Then get the Magnaflow if that's the one you want. You won't have a problem with it if that is all you do. The SPT is still a good exhaust though. It's much louder than stock, is subtle, and carries the factory warranty with it. I had it on my 09 Wrx and actually liked it a lot. I had the Invidia Q300 on my 2011 and loved it as well. Pretty much all of the catbacks sound similar and won't affect your warranty.

After much debate I just ordered the Q300 for mine. I am not a huge fan of the large OD tips but the sound is awesome. After too many hours on youtube the Q300 was at the top of the list, then I was lucky enough to hear a SPT exhaust and a Q300 the day I was getting my car serviced at the dealer. Q300 is great sounding on the sedans. I also got the catted downpipe (for later )

I wouldn't worry about the CBE being the reason for a warranty denial. Especially if the rest of the car is stock.

If the car is trashed and appears to have been modded in the past, it will prob serve as a tipping point. But otherwise no worries.

The only mod I have to "manage" atm is the Cobb SF, now that I've had it on my car for a few days, I'm pretty sure its not worth it to me. It will probably come off soon. Ill wait to see what it sounds like with the Q300, but as of now, meh.

How loud is the invidia vs the spt? A catback is going to be my only modification.

The Invidia is a little louder but not too bad by any means. I was very impressed at the sheer quality of their parts. They are top notch exhaust systems

^^^ What he said. Plus its 3", plus when you need a new downpipe, theirs is a great design, and it bolts right up. Future upgradability is a plus. Like I said I got the catted DP too, my plan is to wait a year or so for the DP, but somehow I doubt that will happen

My system will be on my car by this weekend. Cant wait.

Default Rod bearing

Just a quick question you guy may be able to answer...
Im about to buy a 2008 STI with 92,000 miles. The guy says there is a loud and constant knocking sound coming from the engine. I asked him if it was maybe a piston, but he said it was a rod, but he has no idea how much it would cost to fix. Do you guys have any idea how much this could be to fix or even what caused it in the first place?
Thanks

It'll cost a good deal of money depending on who does the repair and the extend me the damage. It's most likely a spun rod bearing which will require a short block at minimum. There is a good chance as well that there will be metal debris in the oil that can cause damage to the heads, cams, turbo, etc... I'd definitely drain the oil and see if it's full of metal flakes before anything else. It's not an impossible fix and if the car is the right price, may be worth it. But, be prepared to pay to do it right.

Mach V is parting out an 09 STI in the MAIC subforum. Might be worth a look...

full stop.

if you were prepared to take on a project like that, you would not have posted on here.

asking the questions that you are...is a good sign that this will get over your head pretty quickly.

move on to the next one.

Name: Adam B

Make: 09 WRX 5-DR

Mileage: 54689

Time Out Of Use: Going on 1 month..

Problem And Likely Cause: Center Diff, probably bearings

Modifications: None

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): Yes

Reason Given For Denial: Approved

Your Story: I started hearing a high pitched faint whine coming from the front end. I determined that it sounded central, and it was speed dependent. It did not change with gears, and it was louder on hot days. Dealer said that was normal, the next day after a hard left turn... Super high pitch loud noise followed by metal clunking. Towed to dealer drained the trans said your getting a new one. However there isn't one new transmission in the U.S. So I wait... In the meantime trying to put my Built Nissan SE-R Spec V back together to drive... because no rental has been given up..

Subaru will COVER alternate transportation. Your dealer knows this and should have made arrangements. The parts dept can contact PIC and notify them that the vehicle is down to expedite the shipping.

Why are they replacing the whole trans? That doesn't make any sense. Manual trannies are completely rebuildable and that that is what happens under warranty 99% of the time. Entire tranny replacements are almost unheard of without some sort of major damage to the case. I don't see that being the issue here. Besides, the dealer can give you a loaner for up to five days and anything above that has to be authorized by a district rep. I don't see why that hasn't happened unless you are leaving something out.

Yeah they aren't jumping up and down to do anything... The only thing they have offered to do is to throw in a clutch while it's down, if i buy the parts...

I honestly don't know if I would trust them to rebuild it, they told me a whining diff was normal. They also said those never go out usually.. Nope nothing left out, this is a small combo dealership that also sells Acura. They told me it should be in by the 3/30 so... hopefully... I get a car back soon..
